So who else went to the river today?

I took the canoe down the Chipola River today. I got on the water at 0630, and got out at 1500. It was a good day.

This is looking back at Peacock Bridge, where I started.

You see a lot of wildlife with the early start. This little guy was having a drink. I was able to drift close enough to get this shot {with zoom}. I saw five more deer, but they all saw me too soon for me to get the camera out.

We had some pretty good floods this past spring. Here is the high water mark.

This shoal has a name, but I have always called it My Cousin's Bowl Shoals. Mikie, my cousin, found three smoking pipes here. Two of the stone pipes that Indians used, and one of the long clay pipes that were favored by Colonists.

I ate breakfast at the little island you can see to the right side of the river.

That is seriously cool, I feel under whelmed that I just walked along the path beside my local river.

I did have a great time. My shoulders are a little sore, but it was well worth it.

This is Ring Jaw Island. When I do a two day trip, this is where I camp.

I thought this was really cool. There is a little palm tree {or a palmetto} growing in a knothole.

Another big spring. Back in my drinking days, I did cool a keg or two in this one.

Look and Tremble Rapids. You get about ten seconds of white water out of them. What can I say? Florida is flat.

I'm super jealous. The river is one of my favorite places to be. I was trying to talk my friends into a trip this weekend, but now I have to work. :grumble:

Soon, very soon, though. She is calling my name.

This is Bullet Bend. I used to fish along this stretch of the river when I was a kid. It's a short walk from the house.

My sister dropped me off this morning, and she was singing the blues about having to go to work instead of down the river with me. This afternoon when it was time for her to pick me up, she never showed, so I walked home. It was about 2 miles in waterlogged shoes. When I called her, she was at the boat ramp, while I had gone on past there to our camp on the creek. Honest mistake? Or was she letting me know she didn't like getting left behind?

This is the little beach that I walk to from the house. It's just off the county park land at the boat ramp. This is where my sister was waiting for me. My wife said I should get a cell phone, so stuff like this doesn't happen. I figure walking two miles is a small price to pay for peace and quiet.

While some of the rivers here can be as pretty with their clear water and cypress trees (Frio, Medina, and Guadalupe), I don't think we can compete with the size of the bass down there.

Also, you have one of the coolest of the non-common black basses (i
I'm calling largemouth, spotted and smallmouth the "common" ones) in the shoal bass. I tried to catch one when we went to north GA in fall, but I think it where we had time to stop and fish was a cold water stretch below Lanier that just had rainbow trout.

I did get a nice largemouth for the South Llano last time we went. I also got a guadalupe bass about a pound.
