What is too fast for dropping weight?

I am ecstatic that I am losing some of this weight so quickly, but a little worried at the same time. I started MFP alost 2 weeks ago (or will be two weeks tomorrow) and have lost just over 10 lbs. Before starting I was still active: rugby practice twice a week and games on weekends. Ate typically for someone not watching their health. 2 meals a day, 1800 calories, fast food once a week. Over the past 2 weeks I added lifting weights to my routine 3-4 times a week and food some sprinting here and there. I guess the biggest change was I cleaned up my eating habits. 10 lbs this fast just caught me of guard. Should I be concerned?

Weight loss for most beginners will be high due to losing a lot of water weight. The rate will decrease after a few weeks. Just make sure you are losing at a healthy rate for your particular situation.

It will slow down. I also lost about 10 pounds in my first week, then about 5 more my second week. After that, I have been averaging between 1-2 pounds a week. I don't know the science behind it, but it seems to me that that first week or two is all about your body adjusting its water levels, and hormone levels, and getting used to what is happening to it. Once everything levels out, it will then begin to go at a normal rate.

If you keep losing 5 pounds a week for an extended period of time, then you could simply increase your calorie intake to slow it down a little bit.

Most people drop water weight in the first 1-2 weeks, usually in the range of 5-15 lbs (depending on how much water weight that person is carrying).

Become concerned if you are losing 5+ lbs a week for 4-6 weeks, unless you're obese/morbidly obese. Losing more than 2 lbs a week can be okay for people who have a lot to lose, so long as you're eating above your BMR and find it sustainable.
