How much can I lose in 6 weeks?

I started at 291lbs last week and I'm currently 284lbs. I'm pretty sure that loss was mostly water weight but I'm wondering how much a person of my size can possibly lose in a 6 week period? Monday through Friday I swim for about an hour and do laps changing up different types of strokes. I'm eating healthy and drinking up to 160oz of water a daily! I also lift dumbells every other day. I use to eat unhealthy like eating fast food all the time constantly drinking soda and not much physical activity unless out with friends! Even my job is pretty stationary. I'm not only gonna do this for 6 weeks this is a lifestyle change but in about 6 and a half weeks I'm going on vacation so that why I was wondering how many lbs I could drop or even maybe a couple waist/shirt sizes! What are your thoughts? (Sorry for the long post)

    I think the best thing you can do is just work and try hard for 6 weeks. It's nearly impossible to estimate how much you could lose. Up to 12 pounds is safe. But if your deficit is lower, you'll lose less. Gaining is also possible. Water weight is also hard to predict. A lot of people lose water weight for the first 1 - 2 weeks. Mine kept coming off for 3 - 4 weeks. Very hard to guess. Just try to have a good time on your vacation and don't worry (but also keep at it haha).
  • IDK I lost 28 in 3 weeks.

    A couple sizes? Probably not. Strength training.....especially if you've haven't done it in awhile is great for inches. Losing inches is even better than losing pounds.

    Just do the best you can with the time you've got.

    I started at 279, and in my first 6 weeks, I dropped 36 lbs. I dropped probably 1 clothing size in that period.

    I wouldn't recommend setting this as a target, nor was it my expectation/target either (I had targeted 2 lbs a week). I simply cleaned up my eating act (reasonable calorie target, good macro mix, high nutritional content), and I walked everywhere possible.

    I've kept this up, and after 7 months I was 99 lbs down.

    If I were to do it again, I would have started lifting from day 1. I only started a month or so ago.

    Don't put pressure on yourself to lose too much too quickly. Take a long term view. You want to be able to keep it off after you've taken it off. Good luck, and enjoy your holiday.

    * Edited to correct typo.

    You can lose realistically between between 10-20lbs or you can use less weight and actually lose inches. It all really depends on how motivated, focused, determined and disciplined your are. drinking 160oz of water is great, eat lots of lean protein (fish, white/breast poultry, lean pork, soy) eat only lowfat or nonfat dairy, as many raw or steamed veggies as you want (flavored w/ low sodium broth rather than butter) and 3 servings of fruit before 3pm don't eat after 7pm and get 6-8 hours of sleep per night. Burn more calories than you consume per day - but consume at least your BMR per day, take a multi-vitamin ect. If you try to change all eating & exercise habits at once you may become overwhelmed, discouraged or quit. But it is "possible" to achive maximum results quickly. Good Luck!
