Are Quest Bars magic?

They seem a bit too god to be true. I bought a bunch recently on sale and love them, but I'm having a hard time believing they're really that high in protein and fiber, and good for you. Anyone know if they've got any dirty little secrets to make them to healthy?

I'm considering eating them daily if they live up to the hype. What's your experience?

From what I've read, they're pretty accurate. I use them as protein boosters when I haven't hit my goal. All I know is, they work well for me. :)

I know what you mean. I guess I just have to hope they are what they say they are, since I eat one most every afternoon at work.

As far as protein & meal replacement bars go there are definitely worse options out there, but they are still highly processed & made with some questionable ingredients. It's always better to get your protein from whole food sources

    Yes. Yes they are.

    Wait... what are quest bars?
  • They lie about how many carbs are in there. I'm diabetic, so I know these things.

Based on what happens to me after eating two of them, I'll believe their fiber claims.

All I know is that these things like to explode in the microwave. Also, don't stick the wrapper in the microwave. It will catch on fire. Don't ask me how I know this.

In my view, they are. They have enough protein and fibre in them that if I have to, I can get by on one as a meal alone. That said, I usually use them for post-workout snacks so that my muscles have something to repair them when I go to bed (I'm a night runner).

    Love love love love them.

No they don't. You're probably looking at the net carbs.

The calories are usually wrong on them, so just add up the fat, carbs, protein to get the correct amount. It's usually not off that much.
    Carbs - 4 calories/gram
    Protein - 4 calories/gram
    Fat - 9 calories/gram

I agree. Whole food sources are the only way to get good protein.

    Magic? No

Magically gross tasting...yes...but that comes down to preference.

They def have good macros, but are quite pricey for what they are.

There were some accusations, based on faulty testing, that the nutritional info provided by Quest was incorrect. This was debunked some time ago. The information, including the carb count is accurate. They taste really good, and provide a lot of protein and fiber. I have one every day, and sometimes two if I'm out and about and need a snack. I log the calories and it has not interfered with my weight loss.

They certainly taste like magic! I actually prefer them to actual candy bars and other sweets. I can only buy a couple of them at a time. I have no self control whatsoever around quest bars.

Considering it spikes blood sugar like a candy bar, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Uhhh...protein can spike blood sugar. Just thought I'd throw that out there...

EDIT: I should add the insulin production plays a part in that, but you did mention diabetes

Some of the flavours are horribly synthetic, at least to non-Americans.

The ingredients list, for example :-

Protein Blend (Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Isolate), Isomalto-Oligosaccharides (Prebiotic Fiber), Almonds, Water, Unsweetened Chocolate, Cocoa Butter, Erythritol. Contains Less than 2% of the following: Sea Salt, Stevia, Natural Flavorings, Sucralose.

includes ingredients like Oligosaccharides and Sugar alcohols that are classified differently in various jurisdictions as to their calorific value, whether they count as fiber or not, etc etc.

    The EU weren't convinced about Isomalto-Oligosaccharides - http://www.efsa.europa.eu/fr/scdocs/doc/1801.pdf

The first link doesn't prove anything.
The second link only brings me to a class action complaint for Quest which is just a lawsuit. Still doesn't prove anything.
Third link is the actual lawsuit. Still not proven because these are just allegations against Quest.
The fourth is the response to the claim. Still nothing proven.

Nothing has come of this complaint that you sent me so far. That I can find at least.

If they cause your blood sugar to spike like a candy bar would cause, then simply do not eat another. No one is forcing you to.

Do yourself a favor and stop responding to me. Stick to the main thread and eat your Quest bars if you like them so much. No one wants to debate you. You haven't made any attempt to disprove anything and only set out to bait someone in an internet quarrel over who is right. Your opinion doesn't matter at all.

I love Quest Bars. I buy them off the website or Amazon where they are cheaper. If you order 12 of any bars, from the Quest website, it now counts as a case and they are $24.99. I always search for a free shipping coupon code, so I have never paid for shipping. I just ordered some of the protein chips. I have only had the Sour Cream and Cheddar, but they were pretty good. They help with cravings and binges!! Luckily my husband and daughter hates them, so I only have to hide them from myself, because I tend to only want to eat those and no real food, because they are so convenient.
