I just read with interest the thread called "Water, water, water" and am perplexed. I never drink plain water! Should I? What is the reason?

Your advice is appreciated.
Nick.

Oh my gosh!!! You have, have, have to drink water, it is imperative to weight loss and just good for your body in general...water is what makes the world go round...lol
  • I don't drink water - usually. My main reason for drinking it as I'm watching calories is to fill up my tummy so it believes I'm part way full already - so my meagre portions (compared to what I'm used to) feel adequate. I think I read somewhere that being dehydrated can also trick your brain into making you think you're hungry so you eat when actually, you're only thirsty. I'm sure somebody will come along soon with a much more scientific explanation but the top and bottom of it is - YES you should be drinking water! :)
    Enjoy!

ps I tend to drink mine through a drinking straw - don't ask me why but it just feels like I'm not glugging down gallons of water that way!

I am a bit murky on the benefits of water to say light tea, but there does seem to be a big preference to drinking a good amount of plain water every day.

    Good Luck!!!

  • This is what i do with water... i agree it does not always taste like water, but truely it is the best thing to drink while trying to lose weight. at least 8 cups per day.. I drink 1 sipper of water the first half of the day. ( a sipper carries about three cups.. give or take) second half of the day refilling at lunch. To add flavor i use lemon, or maybe some flavoring like peppermint, or even raspberry... you can buy these at the store, next to the coffee. They really make the water taste better. and your still getting your water. and before bed after brushing my teeth refill on the sipper and take it to bed with me. :D great way to get the water in. :D Use a sipper!

    Yes - you should be drinking 2 - 2.5litres every day ....

Being even 1 percent dehydrated can cause a significant drop in metabolism, which can also interfere with weight loss.

It is very difficult for the body to differentiate hunger from thirst. If you don't drink enough water throughout the day, you may mistake thirst for hunger and eat more than you really need, which can also impair weight loss. So staying well hydrated is important, particularly if you are trying to lose weight. And don't forget to eat lots of water-based foods like soups, vegetables and low-fat dairy, which are equally important for weight loss, as they lower the calorie density of meals. That can help you reduce calories without reducing portions.

Your body is composed primarily of water, and when you are dehydrated, your body does not function efficiently on the cellular level causing issues on the tissue level, and thus affecting the overall status of your organs. Water flushes out toxins, aids in digestion, increases immunity, reduces tiredness by increasing energy, stimulates more blood production, causes sodium and potassium to be in balance, helps with hormonal balance, etc, etc...

    So, yeah, drink your water!!!
  • If you drank water for a week (for the majority of the day) you would probably start craving it and then drink it all the time. I carry a water bottle with me during the day. I have always drank water my entire life. My husband hates it and only drinks diet soda. I've begged him and pleased and he insists he is getting his water intake via soda. Water is so good for you and doesn't really taste like anything.
  • Some great answers here! Thanks for taking the time to enlighten me.

I'll give it a go and drink more water.

Good luck everyone with your programmes!

    Nick
