IIFYM question! How much is too much?!

Im very new to IIFYM and i reallly want to do it right to get the results i want.
I hear lots of people saying that is okay to go over in the fats and protein category but my question is how much is it okay to go over?
for example: Today i went over on my fats by 20g. Is that too much to go over or is that ok?
I understand that its probably better to not go over at all but i just want to make sure im not hurting myself.

From my understanding of what little I have read about IIFYM (sorry I'm not more knowledgeable), as long as you meet your minimums and stay under your calorie goal, then you're fine.

In the grand scene of things, 20g of fat isn't going to do much anyways ;)

I agree over 20g over the limit (bad day) also what does IIFYM stand for? What about the sugar/carb intakes? I mean if they are over buy 5g or w/e? But calories is under by a lot?

As long as you satisfy your macros that you are tracking and are under your calorie goal, going over on fats is fine.

You need to set your proteins specifically based on goal and current body stats - eventually set carbs and fat based on what works best for you and how your body will react to it.
I am more of a carbs person hence my mix will see more carbs and less fat - pure preference and output of energy when I train.

Going over your fats will not make a massive difference - try to keep your calories at bay.
Try also to establish how your body interacts with the split fat / carbs and the energy output you get (if you train regularly).

All this to say - you fine with 20 gr of fat more yesterday!

did the 20g of fat put you over your calories?
  • No I never go over my calories. But almost every day i go a little over on my fats. Should i just adjust my fats higher or not worry about it so much?
I usually go over about 10-20g.
at the end of each day i am always under my calorie limit by about 100.

It's very hard to be perfect every day unless you eat the same thing every day, without fail, and never splurge. Heh.

Most people who use the IIFYM school of thought say that the Protein and Fats macros are minimums and can be gone over, while the carbohydrates are there for "whatever's left" to fill your macros.

I personally set my macros to be: 35% Protein, 25% Fat, 40% Carbs (which gave me a little over 1 gram per pound of lean body mass for protein, right around 0.4 grams per pound of lean body mass for fat, and the other 40% was what was left) and try to follow those numbers - or at least the numbers pre exercise, heh. If I'm over a bit, fine. If I'm under a touch, it all comes out in the wash from the over days.

If you didn't adjust your macros within MFP, they COULD be preset as too low for IIFYM recommended macros. I've had to move mine around a little bit.
