jogging in place SUCCESS STORIES please?

hi all i just found out that you can burn 332 calories in 45 mins if you jog in place :O i dk why i find it hard to believe.. please share your success stories .. i am going to try out this.. thanks:)

Well I do Leslie Sansone videos via YouTube and get a good burn I did 4 miles yesterday and burned 610 calories (HRM) I like it because you can do it in your home.5

Any movement is good movement, you don't have to physically travel to burn calories. Put lots of energy into however you decide to move and you'll burn calories4

MFP grossly overestimates calorie burn. Unless you have a heart rate monitor for a more accurate number, I'd take the real figure to be half, so 166.8

I wouldn't put too much faith in the Calories burned number though. Like others have mentioned use a heart rate monitor, or don't eat back all the exercise cals.
My running story : I ran a lot as a teen/young adult training for sports, now 17 years later I didn't feel ready to run again. I ran in place slowly building up until I could keep it up for 20 minutes. In June I started running outside again and run 3 5ks a week now and thinking of making one longer!

I'm sure you can... But that would probably get old really fast imo.
I've done Leslie videos, and wii fit jogging where I can turn the tv to something good while jogging. Or you can jog in place on a treadmill. But all of those bore me quickly.0 -

I want to know more success stories. I lost 5lb and it triggered me becoming more active. Then I went from that to the treadmill and outdoor running. Another poster was right, at least for me, it does get quite boring FAST. I prefer going outside or hitting a track as to the treadmill or just jogging in place. You will burn calories as long as you put in effort and try.

I'm a stay at home parent with a husband in the military that can work odd hours or not be home for a period of time, so most of my exercises are things I can do in the house while keeping an eye/ear on our daughter. My main form of cardio has been jogging in place since the end of January. I usually do 45-60 minutes a day, 5 days a week, while watching something on TV - aka the toddler's naptime. :laugh: I've only lost 15 lbs since I started jogging in place, but you can see the change in my stomach in my profile picture. (I also stay at/below my daily calorie goal and incorporate other exercises into my day usually, but the jogging in place helps me net 8,000+ steps a day and burn a couple hundred calories)
Try it out for awhile, and if you like it and see a difference keep at it! :flowerforyou:3 -

well... I prefer doing my workouts at home and my home is not to big that i can jog around.. Thats why:)3 -

If you don't want to go outside to exercise, you could try this quite strenuous exercise. PROSTRATIONS. These are good to do when you can't leave the room/house.
Look them up on a video to see how its done. The tibetan buddhists do them for religious reasons.
20 minutes of these is about 100 if i remember correctly. That's a lot and a good workout quite similar to jogging. Put a cushion down where you'd get on your knees.0 -

Well, considering I do it 5 days a week most weeks, you lose that bet. Feel free to pay up whenever! :laugh:
I find running outside about as stimulating as watching paint dry. It just isn't my thing, even with music. At least I can get sucked into a good show or movie when I'm working out in my living room and forget about the time. (I also can't use weather or time as an excuse either)
People should find something they enjoy doing, instead of trying to do something they hate. It's much easier to do the fun exercises!8 -
would consider some other stuff too to do at home then, like body weight exercises, some of the blogilites videos can be done in really small spaces and loads of hiit free videos on you tube to do at home just for a start1

Wii fit, fitbit, get something that can track your running in place That may help ya. LOL to the running in place, but not getting anywhere.. Priceless lol :P1

There are tons of options for small spaces that are better than running in place. Burpees, squats, box jumps, the list goes on. Also, just get a treadmill! And as far as keeping an eye on your kid, that what they make fitness strollers and bikes for.2 -
I stop at intersections and jog in place so that cars can pass. I consider it pretty important since it keeps me alive.6

what is nice to jog in place is to watch videos of virtual runs. Some videos are so beautiful4

It has served me well. I do interval training. I jog then walk then jog then walk. i alternate back and forth and I burn lots of calories. Sometimes while watching television, I get up during commercials and jog in place. If you live with someone, do it together. It's great.3

The floor inside your home: the poor person's treadmill. Yep, don't bother spending money on this it takes up space and you can literally do the same thing without it!
I started walking around the neighborhood and built up to 5 miles every day (took 2.5 hours with the dog), and slowly because my older dog likes to take breaks (under trees while rolling around). Then summer came. June 1 here in the hot steamy extreme summer days of Houston, TX and I was gardening and got heat exhaustion. Waking up 2 hours before the sun rose was preferable, since that is the coolest time of the day. But the second the sun comes up... my dog would just sit, like a bricked phone. And that is darn early on our long days of summer!
So, I started with Leslie Sansone, and some others like her. It didn't take me long to figure out that I can listen to music, talk on the phone, read, pray (if only I could crochet and sew) while pacing, walking, jogging or low impact stuff. Once you hit a few of the low impact videos online you get a feel for it and can do it as long as you would like, wherever you would like.
5'3" female currently 49. I started 6/2013 at 277 size 26/28 and in 2021 I think it was when I hit 200 lbs, then I could really move it after being obese for 30 years. Now I am btw 147-150 and a small size 8. I wanted to start lifting when I hit 160 lbs, but it didn't happen. I don't have a car, and rarely leave the house. So people talking about "jogging in place is boring" I mean, I am already at home. What is it to you random internet person whether I sit on my bum on the couch or jog in place? So judgy, live your life with squats lunges or whatevers random internet person. I can walk, so that is where I started and sort of took it to another level over time.
I have gotten to a place where I am a low tolerance sitting person. I don't sit before 6:30 pm every day, except Sundays. I am like a shark!
If you want to friend me, that is great. I have really enjoyed this Thanksgiving with the over the top calories. I did get heavier, but I also got smaller... I got to the point where I was fitting in size 6's even though I gained a few pounds. That is new. I am not at permanent maintenance yet. I was thinking of getting to weight 141 for a normal bmi, but if I am going to be a size 6 at 147, I will just stay at 147 I guess.. not sure I want to be smaller than a size 6.
The really really nice thing about walking, jogging, doing low impact is it translates to real world distances. I can stand/walk for 8 hours with no breaks. I want to climb a mountain, and while the distance is "easy peasy" for me I am a little unsure about the elevation. What I do know is that it will be easier for me than for the majority of sedentary people.
But that is what it looks like to really take the jogging in place seriously. When I do leave the home and do things with people I am NEVER winded. I can stand and walk better and longer than anyone I am with. Includes teens to 30 year olds that are "fit". The only thing is sometimes I get do get comments. i.e. waiting in line at a store on black Friday I was pacing in place to get, "do you have to go to the bathroom?" or sometimes at dr.'s offices I get the occasional "your pacing makes me nervous". I believe this is what is called a habit, my habit is to stand/pace EVERYWHERE I go, unless I make the decision to sit down... pretty much only at church or adoration, or if it is after 6:30pm.

I did not think I was going to be such an active almost 50 year old, but that is what happened to me when I made it EASY to move wherever I will be, and then chose to do so.9 -

Its been 8 years....how have you made out? Would love to hear!
I use a small trampoline to jog on....I need to prevent the jolt to my knees and feet.2 -

Me too! I am older and had hip replacements back in 2015. I jog in place 30 minutes nearly every day to upbeat music. Not only does it burn mad calories, but it's gentle on the joints and you can adjust the intensity to meet your own fitness level. When I first started 2.5 years and ~85 lbs./6 stone ago, it was all I could do to manage a slow 5 minutes. But I built up my endurance, greatly improved my CV health and reshaped my lower body. I would highly recommend rebounding to anyone at any fitness level.

MFP doesn't recycle them...another user finds them and posts and brings the zombie thread back to life. MFP doesn't hard close any discussion like other platforms do so someone just has to leave a comment and a thread that's been buried for years will suddenly pop up on most recent.0 -
