I've done it. I use my protein powder as a substitute "creamer". I have no idea if it is healthy, or recommended, or a good idea, however. I'll be interested to see what others say...

    Yes.

Well, kinda - I have vanilla flavored protein (I think all of the flavored protein powders are way too sweet), and add instant espresso powder and sometimes cocoa powder. Then water and ice. Makes a decent cappucino-type (or mochacino-type) shake.

Don't try adding the protein powder to a hot liquid. You'll end up with a disgusting clumpy mess.

I tried to mix vanilla whey protein powder with hot coffee, and it coagulated the proteins and was disgusting. Think of curdled clumps of flavored non dairy creamer in your coffee. Eugh. So maybe don't try that. It was a waste of perfectly good protein powder and perfectly good coffee. High heat can be really bad for protein powder. I'm not sure if that is true for all brands, but I would think so.

Now, frozen iced coffee cubes blended with protein powder and skim milk. Oh yeah. I've done that. Its good

I use unjury protein powder and it suggests mixing either vanilla or chocolate with coffee. I does say that the coffee needs to be under 130 degrees. Otherwise bad things will happen...
  • Cold coffee, yes. Hot coffee, no. Good stuff.

This morning I mixed chocolate whey, chocolate almond breeze (unsweetened), Trader Joe's cold brew coffee, a tablespoon of Nutella, and a tiny bit of stevia (4 drops liquid). it was delicious!

The comedian Steven Wright said that he put instant coffee in his microwave and almost went back in time. I can only assume similar results.

I like the idea of the ice cube coffee. that sounds awesome!

okay, i will be sure not to mix a hot coffee with the protein mix. maybe i could just toss a tbsp of instant coffee in the shake.

Yea wait for it to cool a bit and mix with just a tiny bit of water first, then stir it in slowly.

My worst experience was adding protein powder to oatmeal while cooking it in the microwave... worst decision in my life, been scared to add it ever again but, I think I might try adding it after its cooked and let it cool a bit (like with the coffee). Just don't like wasting protein... or eating something disgusting.

YES! In the winter I did this and had a nice chocolate mocha or vanilla coffee... it was a little foamy on the top, but I can get through that. I pretended I get protein packed starbucks every morning :)

I loved it. I also make iced coffees with the protein shake.

Works if you mix the protein with cold milk (or water I suppose) first then add to the coffee :)

Pretty much every day. But I chill the coffee first, and add ice and blend so it's like a chocolate coffee milkshake.

I add the ready-made protein drinks to my coffee for the very reason you mention. It works great - good protein/calorie ratio, and the coffee tastes pretty good. I sometimes also add a splash of a sugar-free syrup to give it more of a coffee house drink.

Some protein powders will "cook" if you mix with hot coffee, leaving you with a lumpy mess. Personally, I cold brew coffee overnight, which also removes a lot of the bitterness that comes with coffee. The cold coffee mixes perfectly with protein powder, usually chocolate or vanilla.

I add coffee to my pre-workout shake. It works a lot like taking NO or other pre-workout mixes and is a whole lot cheaper, and in my opinion more effective.

I have protein coffee shake literally every day. It is pretty much the only way I drink coffee nowadays. I freaking love it. And I was a very heavy coffee drinker before, so the change is significant. FWIW here's my process:

    1) cold coffee - either I'll kcup it and refrigerate it overnight OR I put ice in a blender bottle (about 1/4 or 1/3 full) and pour hot coffee over the ice

    2) protein powder - almost always Isopure dutch chocolate...though I occasionally use something different (waiting for my order of Isopure cookies and cream as we speak)

    3) cap the bottle and blend well now - i always blend prior to adding milk (I don't prefer it to get thick/frothy)

    4) add skim milk or almond milk - I actually prefer 1/2 cup of skim (approximately - I dont always measure precisely).....alternatively 1 cup of almond

    5) once the milk is added, fill the rest of the way with ice

    6) cap it and do a gentle final mix - not vigorous....just wanna blend in the milk and ice, not froth the thing

    That's it!

Seriously I crave this stuff and start every single day this way.

    Good luck!

So it sounds like if you made coffee the night before and put it in the fridge, mixed the powder into the coffee in the morning and then reheated, it might work out okay?

yeah- I threw a half scoop in the bottom of a mason jar- put in a k-cup added coffee- screwed on the lid and shook till my arms hurt- no dice.

wasted a perfectly good cup of coffee and a half scoop of protein. I was sad.

i haven't figured out a good way to mix the two properly- but in theory it's a "good" idea.
