Totally scared for this weekend!

I have family coming in tonight, and my work Holiday party tomorrow night. We work in the human services field (i.e. AODA, mental health services, etc) so that means a lot of the alcohol and bad food flowing. Plus, with the family being here, I need to entertain more than they need to see me workout! Any tips???

We always seem to go out to eat daily when family comes. Why not cook healthy meals instead? Bring a dish to the holiday party that you know you can eat. And its family-they should support you in eating well and working out!0

I agree with the above post....you can control the meals with the family coming in. As for the workouts, maybe get up early and fit some in, even if its a shorter period than you would normally do. I think they would understand and be proud of the decisions you made. As for the work party, pick and choose what you put in your mouth and if you go overboard a little, just get right back to it the next day. Perfect reason for a vigorous workout the next day!!0

Ideally we would all just make amazing choices, listen to our bodies (i.e.: eat when we're hungry and stop when we're full), but in social situations this common sense stuff can frequently fly out the window. In order to set myself up for success, I do a few things:
- Spoil my appetite: I never enter a social situation hungry. I do not save calories for these events. I eat before I go and arrive at the event full. This way I can make rational decisions about what to taste/sample. Even if I plan on eating a full meal at a restaurant, I STILL spoil my appetite. Arriving full saves me hundreds (if not thousands) of calories.
- I wear clothing that does not allow room for a huge meal/over eating: The belt-over-everything trend has been my friend. I always wear a fitted belt around my waist over button downs, sweaters, cardigans, whatever. Wear those skinny jeans. Wear that fitted dress. Whatever I chose, it's my goal to make it fit comfortably ALL. NIGHT. It's really hard to stuff myself full of food when my outfit does not allow for much expansion of the belly. There's a reason people undo their pants after a big meal. I won't be that girl.
I also skip the bread basket. Start with a cup broth based soup to fill me up. Half of my entree goes in a 'to go' container as soon as it arrives at the table. If dessert is ordered, I have a bite or two. I also keep the black, decaf coffee coming.
These tactics have worked for me for the past year

Just track all your food!! And when the fam is over - sounds like you have a wii...it's COLD out - and what a perfect time to challenge those family members to some games!0

Family coming over...well check out the reciepes on here and whip up some tasty ones. Before you holiday party eat dinner that why you won't be tempted to over indulged yourself on the goodies. On Sunday be prepared to work all that alcohol off. Also give yourself a 3 drink limited and bring a small snack...like nuts or gum in your clutch. Just in case.0

I totally like that idea about the restricitve clothing. That sounds good! I will try that, except that I hate how I look in all my clothing..But anyway.. one thing I know is that since being on here, and with a few of my friends, I have let everyone know I'm doing this, and if everyone sees me eating the fried food buffet at the work party, I will feel like a bigger, fatter slob. So, that will be kept in mind.
Regarding the fam, I think I will have to get up earlier and do the Wii. I also have to leave in the morning for my Pole Tease Strip Class. Yeah, a girlfriend and I decided to try that. It's designed to blast calories while giving you the power of confidence! We had to try it..
But oh, did I mention?? Since I live in Wisconsin, Sunday is another huge drinking occasion since the Packers are playing the Bears! Oh, I hope I can get through this weekend! I have yet to weigh myself in two weeks, and I was so looking forward to it next Friday!!!0
