Look at the sodium content on those drinks.

35mg in my can sitting right next to me. So what? The fresh spinach in my salad I ate has more sodium than my Diet Pepsi.

Aspertame has been linked to actually weight gain (the sweetener in Diet Coke and other Diet products). See this video which explains why. Every body is different from a chemical make up stand point but if you are not seeing the weight loss you are wanting then I would look into removing it from the diet. It can't hurt to try for 2 weeks and see what happens.

I lost 70lbs overall, which included lots of lots of SCARY aspartame sweetened drinks. Being in a calorie deficit accounted for most of it, and the aspartame caused my arm to fall off, accounting for the rest.

The only way (as far as I can see) that diet soda can cause you to gain weight is if you drink tons of it, and never ever ever wee.

You don't have to give up diet soda to lose weight. If you are not losing and do not have any medical problems then you are eating too much food.

I used to drink several Coke Zero's a day. I've since cut them out and on the infrequent occasion when I drink soda, I find that they are too sweet and syrupy tasting.

I would tend to agree with the idea that one Diet Coke a day probably won't directly affect your weight loss due to the 0 or 1 calorie that they contain; but, I've read that there are other effects that they can have that can affect a diet.

Examples of things I've read (although I can't point to specific scientific articles):

    1. Eating or drinking sweets tends to make one crave more.
    2. Caffeine may have an effect on weight loss.

Agreed! If you're watching your sodium, they don't help!!

I have noticed that I crave certain foods more when I drink diet pop. I was on and off diet pop so often that I noticed the pattern.

Getting off that stuff is one of the best things I've done.

I like my Diet Coke. I do limit myself to one 12 oz can a day. Is it really the Achilles heel to my diet? I drink 6 glasses of water a day and overall eat a clean diet full of proteins, veges, and fruits. I am not seeing the losses as quick as I would like so analyzing my diet. I have given it up before, but do I really have to?? What does everyone think?

I think you are watching what you eat but not how much you eat

They're low sodium so by this logic, if you're watching your sodium you shouldn't eat anything with sodium in it because it doesn't "help."
