Keepin it open, your food diary that is.

I have read a few things about people posting about food diaries. Many people state that your food diary should be private. Some people state that it’s only for you and it should be private. Some people worry that others will judge them if they see what they have been eating. Others say you are more likely to cheat if it’s public, because, yet again, people judge. I am here to state why I LOVE when people keep their food diary public. Basically..It gives me GREAT food ideas. Through other people, I have learned about, Vitatops, Salad spritzers, PB2, and tons of other stuff. I have seen great salad ideas and snack ideas and so much more. I can honestly say I have never looked and a food diary and thought “Oh no she didn’t….eat that.” So, in conclusion, I vote for keepin it open. Instead of other people judging you, perhaps you are giving someone an idea for a tasty snack or a great idea for dinner. Just something to think about

ok, well, you convinced me0

Agreed. I discovered turkey pepperoni because of someone's diary! I'm also curious as to see how other people eat and manage their calories.0

Yay! Just because of this post I am changing my food diary from friends only to PUBLIC! Personally I think that if people can see what I ate for the day it will motivate me to eat better0

I agree !!!!0

I have a sodium problem. Helps me to see what others are eating to stay under, AND to know I am not the only one! No judgement here!0

i keep it open for several reasons. people will ask me about recipes, they can get ideas from what I eat, and most of all, i am vegan, and there are vegetarians and vegans that look at my diary so they can get ideas for their day. if somebody doesnt want to keep it open, thats fine, but im also somebody that keeps it open. i dont really care about how others think, although i think there isnt anybody on here that would judge, but it could help somebody in my opinion.0

I agree!! It does help me more because I don't want to fib about what I eat!! What would be the point? I just don't eat it....or I do just smaller!
I haven't thought of checking others out for ideas!! Thanks!0 -
totally agree! i love reading other people's food diaries, and i have gotten great ideas from them as well! if you (any of you) want a friend with an open food diary, feel free to friend me, haha!0

I totally agree! It gives me ideas and makes me try new combinations bc the same stuff gets prettty boring!
And, I also know that other people will see it and I feel as if I will be held more accountable for the extra calories I would otherwise "sneak."0 -
I totally agree with you. I have had some people make helpful comments about my food diary.0
-
Ok, I'll open mine too.0

Mine has been wide open pretty much since day one. I may not be the healthiest eater but nobody's perfect. To me it helps keep me just that much more honest with myself. And yes I log everything... I even went so far as to log in a single peanut M&M that I ate last week.0

I personally don't like being friends with people who don't open their diary.0

I think this is a great idea, and hope it gives me more ideas as well. I've been checking out some peoples food diaries and it's kinda giving me a heads up...showing how many calories are in certain things before i eat them. Right now I thought I made a really good healthy low cal lunch.....but once i entered it in I realized that is was more calories than I thoght. Now I see where i could have changed it to make it less. Oh well live and learn eh?0

I'm ambivalent about keeping my diary open. It was, then wasn't (and I honestly don't know right now if it's open...I'll check). I was really okay with keeping my diary open, but then some of my friends commented on specific foods I was eating, and it was just weird for me. I don't mind it being open as long as my attention isn't drawn to what's in it. The status of my diary hasn't yet altered what I've eaten or logged, though. I don't feel like a great role model, however, so I'm not sure that having access to my diary would be useful to others.0

I think it's silly to keep it private. I Mean, it's not like it's your daily sex log or something...it's just food! We're all in this together, so I just don't understand why keeping something so straightforward and non-offensive private. JMO.0

I have mine open to and I'm always honest about my food intake! I feel like keeping it public holds me even more accountable because everyone will see if I go over on my calories or eat junk.
I remember one day I finished logging my food, and one of my friends on here commented on how I was doing well. Later in the night I considered having a reese's cup but decided against it for that very reason!
Overall, it's a personal choice and it should stay that way!0 -

That's the reason mine was closed. I don't really want unsolicited advice, because after a long time and lots of hard work to get to where I am now... I feel I have a very good handle on my exercise and dietary habits at this point. But if other people really want to see diaries for ideas, I think that's fair enough.0 -
personally while i try not to judge anyone i actually judge CLOSED diary people more. i REALLY wonder what they have to hide. i've got nothing to hide, if i have a crap food day, i have a crap food day. thats just how it goes and i've even gotten more than one very sweet message from people who have found my food diary helpful to them. i love having it all out in the open0
-
agree 100%!!! even if you see people have messed up! it's commendable just to keep logging when you have a bad eating day!! I used to give up and not log at all if i cheated one time, and I learned it's better to accept the mistake, learn from it, and keep pushing forward. seeing how many calories everything is really helps open your eyes to how you got the way you are!! and i love seeing what other people eat, mostly for ideas for myself, but also to keep me and them accountable!! feel free to keep a check on mine! and i love constructive critism!0

I don't eat anything interesting. Still keeping mine closed.0

I keep mine open, and i love it! It makes me more accountable for what i eat. If i go for an oreo i think "Do i want everyone to know i ate that?" So I don't eat it, which is awesome! I love looking at other ppls because i'm clueless... I didn't become fat by growing up in a house that had healthy eating habits lol so its always nice to see what other ppl eat on a typical day. It's a wonderful tool and I intend to take advantage of it But I hold no bad feelings for those who don't, I just think, "awe man i wanted to see their diary lol."
Anyone can add me and comment on my food diary anytime. Thats what I love about this site, the interaction and feedback from others is incouraging and very helpful! I would be lost with out it!0 -
Ok You swayed me too!!!0
-
mines open!0
-
Mine's open, and like you, I have learned about other stuff...it also makes me feel normal, I don't eat anything special and i still manage to keep things in check, most of the time, I want other people to know they can eat "real food" and still stay within their goals... I love it, but it's up to you, open or not, i'll still be your friend!!0
-
I think it is really easy to keep eating the same things over and over again so to be able to look at other diaries makes you aware of lots of other goodies to eat!
I like to look at the diaries when people have posted that they have had a good/bad week. Mine is open, but when I keep entering wine I wonder if it should be!0 -
ok, ok, you convinced me. I'll make mine open!0
-
I concur! We should start a food diary revolution! :drinker:0
