Your best bet is to work directly with your tattoo artist. Talk with them about what you want and have them design something. A good tattooist doesn't just copy things from the "Flash" book, but rather is an artist in their own right. If you both like what they design it's a win-win situation because you get the tattoo YOU want, and they take pride in applying THEIR art.
I have a few that I have done this way, all from the same artist, and I love them all. Talking to him now about a large chest piece, but not sure if I am ready for the long multi-sessions that it would involve.0 -
I'm wanting to get a small one on my foot right above my pinkie toe, that way I can cover it or show it off if I want.0

I've itching as well.
Def "bumping" this for later.

I'm all about letting the tattoo artist design a custom piece (unless you are an artist yourself). Get ideas of what you'd like - I look at actual art, not tattoos for inspiration (I simply find it easier to get more ideas this way). Bring in some various ideas and let him/her do their thing.0

I've been wanting another one too, but I'm trying to save money and a tattoo just isn't in my budget anymore. Tumblr and Pinterest are good sites.0

I just a two tats a few months ago of my kids' feetprint at brith with their names underneath. I am definitely looking to go half sleeve to half sleeve across my back. I am think hitting my goal weight will be a good time to do that. What do people have? I am looking for some unique ideas. So far I have 5. I just like to hear what others have. Let me know!0

I am tattoo free form the time my Mama dropped me on my head to now.. nearly 50 years later... BUT I am thinking... I just might add a Latin phrase in an odd font...0

i take the opposite approach, i don't want a tattoo and then find something. i find/design something i want that makes me want a tattoo.0

I have not had that 'urge' lately. Especially if it itches for eight months! Think you might want to see a doctor or does it healo and then keep coming back?0

I'm going to half-sleeve my right arm. Some tribal design. Some personally drawn. But mostly, I'm gonna give the artist and idea and let him run with it.0

Going to get one of mine altered soon. By altered I mean cover up the part that has my ex's name on it. lol Probably going to have them brighten up some of the colors on the shamrock too.0

Triple QFT. I was pissed when I found out that a guy I used to work with copied my wrist tattoo.
Best place for me for grabbing tattoo inspiration is probably tumblr (just search the tags); otherwise, look at shops in your local/surrounding area and find an artist you like. A lot of them have work they love that they are dying to put on someone.0 -
Going to get a new one Tuesday. This time I get to take my husband along so he can loose his tattoo virginity I agree that you should work with your artist. My best tattoos are when I have gone to the artist with an idea and a few things that I want to have integrated but allowing them to arrange it and tweak it to fit my body.0

me too me too! Just unsure of the desired location.0

For my tattoo which is a pretty big back piece, I took 2 pictures of the design of what I wanted and my artist designed it for me. I'm already ready for another tattoo, its been 2 yrs since my first. thinking shoulders or front chest area right below the neckline. haven't decided yet, but pinterest has great tattoo images as well as google images search.0

I took a picture of an anchor to my artist and next thing I know I am walking out with one that looks nothing like the picture and its now part of a half sleeve. I love it so much. I refuse to go to anyone but her. I think I found the original picture by just Googling ideas, but I agree with the others about Pinterest. Good luck!0

These are the images I am giving my tattooist for inspiration on my next one: Classic pin-up on a vintage anchor with my wife's name incorporated somehow. Location will most likely be on my calf.
And before anyone comments about putting names in a tattoo, you should know that we have been together almost 20 years and are closer today than ever.0 -
I like the tats. I like ones that are oiginal and personal. If I see another tribal this or old english that, I will flip. Unless you have some sort of historic connection that relates to tribal markings, seriously, what's the point? I know it's all in personal preference but I do like to have a story when someone asks me "Why?" or "What does it mean?" The classic pin-up is definitely a great look, and obviously you like to sail. Looks awesome. Just need to find that next aspect of my life to put on there. My wife and I both agreed to not put each other's name on our bodies. Still thinking....ugh. It's all about the inspiration to find an image that is me. The struggle.0

I want to get mine removed lol0
-
Oh no! What did you have that you want to get removed? I am hoping to never have that happen.0

Tattos look great on others, I don't think I would look good with a tat. I'm probably too self-conscious.0

tattoos are not for everyone and if you decide to get one, you will know it when you see the right image or picture in your head. Just has to be about you. If you are proud of the tat and what is stands for, you won't be self-conscious about it for long. Best of luck!0
