CRAP! I think my house is haunted

Ok so its 5:30AM I'm up first and my husband and daughter are still snoozing. I fumble around in the dark for my workout gear and head down stairs to the first floor. My dog follows. I'm sitting on the couch sipping water trying to wake up and the house is dead silent. Its pitch black outside..Then I hear it....it sounded like my daughter yawning....at first, then it kept up. Sounded like breathing, and close. I stood up and looked up the stairs, thinking maybe my husband is trying to scare me. I stand there and wait, I hear it again. At this point i'm getting pretty freaked out. My dog is too. She's looking up the stairs and then starts barking. I decide to check it out. I head up and flip the light on and stand there and nothing. I head into my daughters room (at this point I'd known it wasn't her) and she's sound asleep. Head to the bedroom and hubby is sleeping. So I'm like WTF!?

I've wasted like 15 min of precious workout time at this point walking/standing around my house like a nutcase but I know what I heard, and the dog heard it too. There has to be some reasonable explanation but I haven't figured it out.

I'm a little freaked out guys. I hope I have the nerve to get up for the AM workout again tomorrow :-/

When are you white people going to figure out that you run away from the weird noises and don't go investigating?

Don't think of it as a haunting, think of it as a possible workout buddy.

Ok...you may not be. My last home was built in 1830.
One stormy morning my hubby asked me to iron a shirt...I didn't have time. He went upstairs. I went in the bathroom. From outside the bathroom door I heard a very heavy, loud sigh....I opened the door to ***** at my hubby about the shirt thing....there was no one there.

Same type of morning....hubby in kitchen...I heard the same sigh in the bedroom, I thought it was the dog under the bed...nope..no one there. The dog was with my hubby.

Stormy day again...I heard someone on the stairs...no one there...I made the bug man go thru the house with me. Poor guy rang the bell during this incident

THEN...I was cooking Thanksgiving dinner...alone in the house...someone came up behind me...it wasn't taller than I am. It was as if a child had come up behind me, I couldn't see it but I know it was there....I turned around and again...nothing.

At no time was I afraid. Maybe it was a child. My son said he thought he saw a child in the hall upstairs when he was 12.

A friend of mine once told me to ask...spirit what do you want? I told her I was just trying not to pee my pants.

As I said this was a very old house.

I believe in the spirit world. However, it takes a hell of a lot of energy for a spirit to be corporeal enough to even touch you, let alone harm you. I think you will be fine. Just ignore it and move on with your life and he/she will probably do the same... with his/her afterlife, that is.

I love a good ghost story. But you sound like you want to be reassured and I can do that too. :)

Sound is a funny thing. We can be absolutely, positively sure we hear something and we know what it is and where it is, but our ears can fool us badly. For example, one summer when I was a teenager my church youth group went to an amusement park. A bunch of us were standing on line for the rafting ride, on a bridge that went over the main walkway below. My brother decided to play a little trick on a friend: he was standing right next to her and started calling out in a teeny tiny voice, "Kim! Kim!" and then looking out over the walkway like he could hear someone calling her from far away. Of course that put the impression in her head that the voice was coming from further away. He continued calling her, standing immediately beside her, and she was looking as hard as she could off into the distance to find out who was calling her. It was hilarious.

But also a great illustration of how circumstances can allow our fallible bodies to trick us. What could have been (just spitballing) a dog at a neighbor's house, or a truck downshifting on the highway, became breathing to your tired ears in a dark, early-morning house.

I hope this makes you feel a little better. I bet it won't even happen again. :)

The thing with ghosts is...why do they have to be all cryptic and *kitten*? Like, why can't they just flat out tell me the lottery numbers or do something useful like kidnap SWMBO and take her to the spirit world so I can be single again?

Oh no, it's all this "woooooo" and whispers and knocking the candlestick off the piano when I'm not looking. What good is that to anyone? Get a job!

It could be worse. Your house could be infested with termites, fleas or bed bugs. A disembodied entity never hurt anyone.

It had its moments. But it was highly amusing! Btw, I don't usually scare easy.

Thanks guys you've all made me laugh and I appreciate the advice and or personal experiences a few of you gave. I told my husband about it and he thinks it was the wind hitting this one broken window we have in the house. It could have been but the weird thing is once I went upstairs it stopped completely. :-/

Oh well, i'm gonna be brave and not worry about it.

I lived in a haunted house once. If it is truly haunted there will be more, you will know.....
