I think alcohol provides very necessary calories. I would ditch a lot of other things first.

Well, I haven't quit over the past few weeks, but only having 1-2 drinks in the evening. Not too bad, but will shoot for just one or less per day over the next week.

Just popping in to say I had a dry January and raised £250 for Cancer Research in the process (that's how much I drank originally and how surprised my friends and family were haha) and I know it's tough but keep going!!

I've been alcohol free since July, it's not by choice but due to medical reasons. It is difficult when surrounded by others who drink and drink too much. I always make sure there is cold water readily available, sometimes flavored. I also volunteer to find a new non-alcoholic punch recipe for every get together. My basic non-alcoholic cocktail is Sprite and a fruit juice. Good luck!!!!!

It's been 2 weeks and 2 days since I bought alcohol. I drank some the night I bought it, and haven't drank any since. I keep forgetting it's there. There are times I go months before I think, Hey, wine, and then I never get around to it.

This thread is hilarious; I've found my people! I've been so wanting to cut back on the alcohol consumption, but then a fine Pinot Noir or IPA calls my name! And he has at least 3 tasty buddies that need to be in my belly. The torture. But 2 weeks eh? I think I can do this. I need to do this. All my good intentions get drunk away. Sober September here I come.

Well, I haven't overdone it, but haven't quit either! Hmmm, maybe another try starting today. Not in it for the high, just nice to relax with a glass after work. Am I salvageable?

I made it 2 days! It felt great and easy. But, tonight is pub night with my father. He needs it. It's his social event of the week (mine too, but don't tell anyone). Nonetheless, I will be indulging but will get right back on that wagon afterwards.

I just found this thread, which is perfect timing because my husband and I started the South Beach Diet yesterday. It basically cuts out all crappy processed carbs for two weeks, which sadly includes all alcohol. We have 3-4 drinks several days a week and the empty calories really aren't doing us any favors. I love my wine though!!! Going to commit to abstaining through Sunday September 21, when I'm running a half marathon that ends at a brewery with free beer so obviously I will deserve that ;) That will be two solid weeks though. Not going to lie, it's only been two days and it's already hard.

Good luck to all of you, and get back on the horse if you fell off!

After realising I had over 3 bottles of wine over the weekend and that is a regular occurence, I have set myself a challenge for no booze for two full weeks including two full weekends. Who wants to join me and keep each other motivated?

my last drink was sept 12 in las vegas. i am not drinking again until hubby's company xmas party, dec 12. it was just an idea to see if i could lose a few extra pounds w/o alcohol getting in the way of my weight loss. so far, so good. only had one day when i really wanted a glass of wine to relax, but i reminded myself that i didn't NEED it. after that, easy! Plus i came across the sober for october, so that worked out very well for me! LOL

I am in the wine business, so I am around it daily.

That being said, when my Dr. put me on a low sodium plan, for my blood pressure, I decided to do a cleanse.

I have not consumed any alcohol since mid-May. I have tasted and spit, as tasting wine is part of my profession. Once I reach my goal, I will add wine back in, in moderation.

Also in. I had a bad reaction to three ounces of wine that lasted 4-5 hours over a week ago. Don't know if it was a miracle but scred me
I to not drinking this far. Feel free to add me and make sure I'm behaving!!
  • Is it cheating if you don't drink alcohol? Ever?
  • Im doing Sober October for Macmillan Cancer Support, i hope I can make it further than when I stopped for 3 weeks for no reason other than I wanted to test myself

I know I'm late too but would love to see if I can do this. I would also love to see if I get any weight loss results as well. I'll start today, Oct 9.
