Healthiest food of all: green leafy vegetables! For convenience, buy some organic, boxed pre-washed baby spinach, or baby kale, or a mix of baby spinach, baby kale and baby swiss chard. Superstore has them. Eat raw (in smoothies or salads).

High fibre - lentils and chickpeas and other beans - all usually dried though canned for rush jobs. I don't like kidney beans. They are my least favourite. How do you cook yours? I buy borlotti for mexican.

Only full cream dairy. I don't believe in low fat. I've been persuaded by the low carb scientists etc that fat is not the enemy. In fact low fat could be an enemy since its usually replaced by a lot of sugar and also it might increase cholesterol since dietary cholesterol doesn't cause high cholesterol per se.

olive oil extra virgin cold pressed

    nuts and seeds

oats. i've hardly any room for bread in my food situation.

all the usual fruit and veg, raw frozen fish, canned sardines, eggs,

    nice cheeses

cooking flavours: capers, gherkins, fetta cheese, walnuts, fish sauce, coconut cream, spices and dried herbs, balsamic vinegar from modena, wine,

    dried figs and medjool dates

I try to eat high fibre.

thanks added a few to my list for shopping-others I have or looked so high and low for it and can't find it. I am limited to 4 stores. 2 don't count b/c they are the Polish bakery/meat market my mom likes, lots of fattening stuff. Other is Safeway and walmart.

Cant find sweet potatoes, or affordable protein bars. Other stuff I get as a non organic b/c last time I purchased my yummy spinach as an organic, well it went a slimy weird green and smelled awful.

I have nuts, seeds, veggies/fruit a must. eggs yum

So far can get brown rice and Quaker oats rice minis /rest listed I have or cannot get sadly

If you can't get fresh sweet potatoes, try the Alexia brand. They have frozen sweet potato fries and they are good. 3 oz is 140 calories, I think. I keep a pack on hand, for when I don't have enough prep & bake time (which come the end of Sept. I'll be using those regularly - I work at a concert hall and the season starts in Sept and ends in June. It's nonstop insanity).

I like to pan sear my shrimp in olive oil. Good stuff. Sometimes if I'm feeling particularly indulgent, I'll lightly coat it in some corn meal and wheat flour mix and pan sear it in olive oil. I buy the frozen, un-cooked kind.
  • Frozen berries( replaces icecream), eggs and watermelon

As for shrimp my fave way to cook it is in homemade Japanese style curry with brown rice

You can cook shrimp/prawns like any other seafood: turn it into marinara and eat with pasta,

    Add some to stir fry.

Make a shrimp and vegetable curry.

Add them into any sort of rice dish.

If you were to get the fresh, the best thing to do with them is boil them whole in salt water for a few minutes. EAt with lemon juice and thousand island dressing.

you can eat them in salads if boiled and not fried, or even in a sandwich. They are just meat. after all.

I am growing sweet potatoes for the first time this year. IF you have a yarde, a couple or three sweet potato plants could give you a small yield for next to no money.
