build muscle, but lose weight?

I am trying to lose weight, but I am lifting weights to build muscle( only just started before that I was basically doing just cardio)--but I want to know if I am pretty much going to maintain my weight for a little while so I don't get discouraged and quit. I do know that i will burn fat and I assume i won't build muscle as fast. I don't know y'all Im a little confused, please give me some direction as to what to expect--- I do know that everyones body works differently

I sure you know that to build muscle is calorie surplus and to lose fat is calorie deficit. So what do you think is a good way to put both together?

You will not build appreciable muscle mass while eating at a deficit. What strength training will do for you is help preserve the muscle mass you have and increase strength. There may be some swelling of your existing muscle tissue from increased glycogen and water retention as part of the repair and fueling processes ... that can lead to maintaining or minor gains on the scale.

Building muscle requires a caloric surplus.
Losing fat requires a caloric deficit.

But, you can gain strength while on a caloric deficit as long as you consume enough protein, carbs and fat.

    Lose fat, then build muscle.
