New Girl. Motivation, support, tips and success stories

I'm 18, 5'5 and 16 stone. I really need to lose at least 5 stone and I'd like to do it safely but also as quickly as possible. i cant stand feeling down about myself any more! I just need some motivation :( It would be really nice to have advice and tips from people who are losing weight or who are just starting out like me and need support too. I have trouble with how much i eat and frizzy drinks!!!! I'd also like to make some friends on here i feel the extra support from people who are actually doing a diet, exercising or just improving their health would be great

    Hey! :)
    I started out at just under 15 stone when I started out at the end of July and have lost 8lb so far (I want to lose another 55 to get me to just under 11stone) so it is possible!

    My top tips would be;
    Log Everything. I was shocked when I first started at just how much the food I was eating added up, logging it all is the only way to find this out and work out the best foods to cut down on/eliminate from your diet.

    Keep going. You'll get to a point where you're not progressing as much or as fast as you want and you'll want to throw in the towel but keep going on - it gets harder to start again once you've quit.

    Don't feel guilty, if you eat something unhealthy/have a binge/don't exercise as much as you'd like. Just remember, you've started this journey and that's a lot further than a lot of people have got. If it happens to you just get back on the wagon the next day, stressing about what you've done will not help.

    I also used to drink a lot of fizzy juice (and fruit juice) but went cold turkey before I started this. If going cold turkey won't work for you then try cutting down the amount you drink. If you enjoy the fizz of fizzy drinks then try making fruit squash with sparkling water -it's a lot healthier than fizzy juice but tastes better than ordinary water. if you're not bothered about the fizz then try drinking normal fruit squash or water with a couple of cucumber slices and a lemon/lime wedge - it's super refreshing!

    Just remember, take this at your own pace! It's not always going to be smooth sailing but it's worth it. So good luck and feel free to message if you have any questions! :)

    Also, find an exercise that really works for you and use this as the bulk of your exercise. You can start adding in other types of exercise in later on.

    For example if you find swimming works for you then base most of your initial exercise on this, then when you feel confident start incorporating other types of exercise; jogging, weight lifting, yoga, etc.

    Finding a type of exercise that works for you is really important after all, healthy eating will only get you so far.

  • Thank you so much guys its really nice just to have some support, I feel my weight is starting to effect my relationships with people & I've also suffered from depression from it but its time for change! It's easy for outsiders to say "its easy just stop eating that or drinking that" but its really not so it's nice to have some advice from people who are actually going through the same!
