Hi All,
First post here, excuse me i have done it wrong!
I have been logging for about 3 weeks now and so far have not lost any weight.
Admittedly i have cheated a few times and had some bad meals ans snacks when I've been out for dinner and an event with friends. I have also been doing weightlifting for 5 sessions now and on each have increased my weight.
Would you all mind having a look at my food diary? its a bit of a mess as i just found the 'recipe' tool only last night lol.
According to my bodymedia armband i have averaged a deficit of 1230 calories per day this week (bought it on monday!)
Apart from increasing my weights, i expected to see some progress. i just want to see that scale move!
thanks all
EDIT: should have added stats:
Height: 173cm (5,8)
Weight: 95kg (210lbs)
27 year old male

Can you tell us your height and weight? It's difficult to estimate your deficit without knowing that. In the meantime I would say that a lot of your measurements seem to be pretty round numbers. Are you measuring everything accurately? Weighing something is more accurate than saying "I ate about half that".
The simple answer is that you don't have a deficit that high. You would be losing ~3lbs a week that way (which is way too fast- try to aim for 2lbs a week if you've a lot to lose).0 -
Sorry i should have thought about that. My stats are:
Height: 173cm (5,8)
Weight: 95kg (210lbs)
27 year old male
I got lazy on the second week and didn't weigh everything. the first and last week i weight 100% of everything even down to the few m&ms i snacked on (whoops)0 -
just bumping this one up, got buried pretty quickly.
I'm at a complete loss, just over half way into my 3rd week. And ZERO results.
Been excising and doing my own labor at work and have been maintaining a deficit (average of 1243/day this week).
My motivation and bank account are completely exhausted. Healthy food is so damn expensive.
All that and the %#$^#$ scale has not moved. in fact this morning weigh told me a gained 0.5KGs
Body measurements have not changed, i look the same and my clothes fit the same.
what on earth do i have to do to get rid of this fat i stupidly accumulated??
it cant possibly be this hard and i cant keep doing this if its not changing a thing0 -
I feel the same way right now, but I have to admit I cheated... ate an ice cream cone on the way to buy healthy veggies. LOL When I do this I feel really pissy. But I have to try again tomorrow. I don't find healthy food more expensive. I can buy lots of frozen veggies for the price of a large potato chips. And I eat a lot of salad but have learned that using dressings was just an ill-informed habit. I like the salad better with no dressing. Although I have lost only 1 pound in the past week, I feel much better. You will too I bet. Just hang in there and you're great for the effort.::ohwell:0

I am confused by how you are averaging 1200 calorie deficit daily according to your Body media device, when your exercise and food diary is showing that you are averaging about 400 calories a day. Does your body media device take into account the food that you eat each day or does it just give you an idea of how many calories you burn each day? You may also want to include in your exercise diary the exercise you did and the minutes and manually adjust the calories to match what you accomplished during your workout. It would help to get a better idea of how accurate the device is and how hard you are working out. I wear a Withings device to count my steps and it says that I burn about 200-300 calories each day, but I don't count those calories as my exercise for the day and I have found that when I don't consider those calories as exercise for the day that I don't overeat for the day. MFP calculates these calories as part of your daily activity when determining your calorie needs in order to lose weight. I would look at the calories burned during each of your workouts and count those calories only, make sure to weigh everything, log every piece of food or liquid that you put into your mouth, and see if you start getting the results you want to achieve. Hope this made sense and helps! Good luck on your journey0

The 1200 average i got using data from my Bodymedia device since using it from Monday.
For arguments sake lets say i just MFP figures and i do not log any exercise at all.
My average daily intake on MFP is 1480 Calories. Using the Harris formula mt TDEE is 2460/day.
So at a minimum averaged out my daily deficit is 985 Calories. That should surly result in some loss?
To answer your questions:
- Yes, the bodymedia is synced to MFP so it takes into account daily activity and then deducts what i ate from MFP logging. Thats how i got the 1200 ish a day deficit
- I don't currently log any exercise into MFP i just count exercise as a bonus. I found it hard to log weight training and my other daily activities like shoveling etc.
My daily exercise is:
- I now walk my dog for about 1/2 hour on some trails
- about 45 minutes in the gym. 5 Min warm up on the rower, then squats, cable rows for back, chest press and planks for core. 3 sets of 12 for each.
- stopped hiring laborers at work so now i do my own lifting, shoveling, pushing etc (landscaper)
Any food or drink that i take is measured, weighed and logged. No cheating.0 -
1200 calorie a day deficit is way to high. Want to lose weight? Eat something. 5-700 deficit a day TOPS. you're starving your self and your body is going into starvation mode. Your body media will pick up most of your exercising, you can count the lifting as bonus, if you want, but you should be eating back any extra calories you get from the body media.
I'm 6'4" and went from 260 to 210 eating 2000-2500 calories a day. Trust the system.0 -
Thanks beeblebrox,
i thought the starvation mode was not relevant anymore as it was proved incorrect?
i'd love to trust the system, i just want to know when the system starts!0 -

Says who? 3 weeks at that kind of calorie deficit is straight up malnutrition. If you were trusting the MFP system, you'd be eating at a 500cal deficit, or running at TDEE -20%0 -

Ok, so i went into my goal settings and let MFP work out my data for me. Entered height weight etc and weight loss goal (95 to70KG) losing 1KG per week. and it reduced my calories to 1280 per day!
So from others opinions i have been eating to little and should trust the MFP system. But it wants me to now eat 500 less?
i just don't understand all this, everything contradicts everything else its very frustrating!0 -
Did you set it at sedentary? You'll earn food through your daily exercising, your body media should see to that for the most part.0
