Fed up with the whole weight loss thing

I'm having a really bad day today. I'm scheduled to have my Gastric Sleeve surgery in 2 weeks, and I should be really excited. But, for some reason today I'm just over everything. I'm tired of trying to lose weight. I'm tired of watching what I eat and recording everything I put in my mouth. I'm tired of having to keep my lunch bag on a different floor than my office so I won't snack. I'm tired drinking water. I'm tired of counting calories, carbs, proteins, etc. I'm tired of looking at labels before I put things in my shopping cart.
All I want is a shrimp and bacon club sandwich from Cheesecake Factory, and a piece of red velvet cheesecake. I don't want to care that the sandwich is 1900 calories. I just want to eat it and enjoy it and not feel guilty about it. I want to be able to go out to dinner with my friends again, instead of staying away because I'm not comfortable enough in this process to know what I can have at a restuarant, yet. I don't want to do this anymore. I don't want to struggle with this for the rest of my life anymore. I just want to be able to eat what I want, like I did when I was a teenager. .
It seems pretty overwhelming and hopeless when you look at it from a "You have to do this for the rest of your life" perspective. Today, I just feel like giving up.

But aren't you MORE tired of being tired? and over-weight? and bummed when you go clothes shopping?
It will all be ok, this is a process and the longer you do it, the less it will seem like work I just went to the Cheesecake Factory last night and just changing out my mashed potatoes for brocolli cut the dinners calories in half!!! Its possible to go out and enjoy yourself, you just have to get creative and look at the big picture
We're here for you! We'll all get thru this together!0 -
I hate to say this but with that surgery, dieting becomes even MORE crucial. It's a strict, strict diet.0

Everyone gets in that slump! You just need to find a 'muse' again - It may be the season too. You may have the winter blahs right now. You're doin' fine! It's not a race to see who gets slimmer faster...Enjoy your life, do what YOU want to do. Best wishes...xo0

1900 for a sandwich???????? :noway:

I think everyone here will be able to relate to this. Sometimes motivation flags, and you get sick to death of restricting, counting every calorie, having to put your weight loss before social events. It just sucks sometimes.
All I can really say is that you're doing really well, and if you persevere it WILL be worth it. I've no experience with gastric sleeves and the like, but once you've had the operation then I'm guessing you won't have to stress about counting calories so much, since you'll be full up so much quicker. So that will take some pressure off, although it'll take some getting used to.
We all have bad days, but they don't usually last. So just keep focusing on the end goal. You WILL get there, and you'll be so glad you put in all this hard work.0 -
Yup, I have a lap-band and surgery isn't a magic cure all. You still have to diet. You still have to drink water. You still have to work out. It's even harder to do with surgery. You have to be even more disciplined and willing to work your *kitten* off.0

Hey, I can see what you are saying. Let's think of it this way. your body is a temple for your soul and for God's Holy Spirit to dwell in. Just like we want a nice home for our bodies to live in we should want a nice home for our soul and God's Spirit. Try thinking of a lifestyle befitting a King. Besides you'll feel better , more alive and happier. YOur post has motivated me to remember to make healthy choices cause i only have one body.0

You're not ready to have that surgery. I'm going to just leave it at that.0

(((((((((((((((((((big hug))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Now don't give up...you can do it. I know it is a lot of hard work, but YOU are so worth it! Think about it....you work hard at your job and at home to have nice things....why not work hard at yourself???? Also if you want to go out to eat with friends. 1st find some friends who want to help you.....2nd look at the menu before and pick your best choices. Trust me it can be done! Just stick with it....and if you need one off to help you feel better so be it. Get back up tomorrow and start over! If you need some more help or wanna vent to someone who has been there and done that feel free to add me.0 -
No wonder you're fed up. You have such a negative outlook.
The #1 rule of successful lifestyle change is to change in a way that makes you happy. If you're going to get angry at "the system" for "depriving" you of a sandwich, then you're going about things the wrong way. Nothing you do will stick.
Change your perspective. YOU are the only person keeping yourself from eating what you want. Think about your reasons for that before becoming angry at 'weight loss' as though it were something out of your control.
You could eat 1/4 of that sandwich to get your fix. If you really wanted, split that sandwich into several meals. Or order it without cheese or something. There are many ways to eat what you're craving without going over calories.
Be creative. Find something that works for YOU.0 -
Please don't give up. This is a really tough thing. I just wanted to get rid of 15 pounds, a beer belly, but it's been tough and I have to stick to it. It will come about. I can't believe the progress I've made once I decided to just do it. So please hang in there and go thru this. Best of luck and karma to you.0

I have been having those days lately almost everyday.... but you have to think of the big picture.... and not think of this as a diet. Making small changes now can add up. Keep trucking you will be happy in the end! Keep your chin up!0

This. I would discuss these thoughts with your counselor/therapist.0 -
Losing weight is hard. Being overweight is hard. Choose your hard!0

I have been there before. I LOVE food. Good for you and stuff and a lot of the bad stuff!!!! I wish I could eat all the crap I wanted but thruthfully I feel so much better when I'm eating healthy.
Try and hang in there. You will come out of this!0 -
Also, I think if you really wanted to give up - you would just give up and not post here. There's a big part in you that wants to succeed. You deserve to succeed. We're all going to have our bad days and slurge on the 1900 calorie sandwiches. It's okay that you do that. Forgive yourself and move on. Don't restrict yourself to the point that your miserable. You can still enjoy life and still indulge now and then. We're here for you! Don't give up.0

You're not ready to have that surgery. I'm going to just leave it at that.
This! my mother had this done and failed to ever get the calories watching and dieting under control. in essence she wasted a lot of money, never lost weight and spends a lot of time in the bathroom. You have to get your head into it. Yes its hard to think of this as the rest of your life, but if you have surgery done that is the rest of your life. If you over indulge just once it will come back up. Its hrad and its painful. Start just trying to take things day by day, forget about the rest of your life and just live today. Do it right, watch what you eat nd fight the cravings.
I would also recommend that if you are not seeing a therapist now start seeing one right away before you have the surgey. 75% of the surgeries success will come from diet and diet changes alone.0 -
It says your SW is 247, can I ask why you decided to go with the surgery? When I first started this journey I was 243. Ive lost alot of it by just slowly cutting out bad things. I still go out to eat and I still indulge once in awhile. You have to otherwise you will just give up. I would suggest going and eating that piece of cake or even some dark chocolate and then take a walk and clear your mind. I know how you feel about wanting to just give up.. Its easier to just give in and eat because that is what you are use to and that is what your brain is telling you to do but you are the only one in control, you control what you eat and what you do. Take it one day at a time, try not to just dive right into it with your eyes closed!! We are here for you hun!!!! STAY STRONG!!!0

OMG I AM TOTALLY FEELING YOU TODAY!
Here's hoping we both snap out of it.
I want to sit in a bathtub with cookies and oreos and a cheeseburger and loads of french fries with ketchup and not get up at 630am out of my loving hubbys arms to work out!!!! I want to order off the menu without having to close my eyes and snap it shut as soon as I see a healthy option so I don't get tempted. I want to go with my boys to eat chinese food!!!
Man that felt good.0 -
When you reach the end of your rope tie a knot and HANG ON! We all feel this way sometimes. Remember though if you keep it up then it will become a habit. It is hard because, of course, we are all addicted to food. We have to fight, because we are way more important than that sandwich.
Don't forget too that instead of longing for something it might be easier to challenge yourself to figure out a way to recreate the sandwich into a healthy version that allows you to have a taste of the old, but in a new, good for the better you, package.0 -

HA HA HA HA. sorry, i couldnt help but to laugh at the quote above.
but I'm feeling the way you feel right now plus add depression to it. but when I see my profile pic, it help me to remember why I'm doing all this crap. Its ok to go out & dine once in a while, the zig zag I heard is a great method for some. take a nude pic of your body (without face) & keep it in your purse, it helps me A LOT.0 -
You should go back and review your profile. I found it pretty inspiring and maybe you will, too. If you only think about weight in terms of looks, you might be setting yourself up. How about health? Even though you're young, these are the years that you are setting your health up for what your later years will be.0

We all get like that. And I applaud you for saying it aloud. Many times, we hold in how we feel and hide in the room eating that 1900 calorie sandwich. I understand everyone has their own opinion, but those who are calling you negative or that you're not ready for this piss me off. No one said this journey was going to be easy and yes, it's for a lifetime. So when you want to vent, do it!! I need to do that more instead of getting down in a slump and eating all the wrong things. You can and you will do this. Don't lose hope or faith. Keep a journal and look back at in a month to see how far you've come. Set a goal & a reward system. Something that you want, even if it's a favorite food. Work hard to meet all your benchmarks, then reward yourself. But then go right back into your program. It's hard to be completely restrictive all the time.0

Also, have you tried to make that yummy sandwich at home? A lot of times that can cut calories in 1/2!!0 -
Shanny,
I know EXACTLY how you feel. I often stop and think, "If I'm already this tired of counting calories and watching what I eat and saying no to foods I love because they're high in calories/fat/cholesterol/whatever, how in the world can I keep this up for the rest of my life?" And it really is something that has to be done for the rest of your life, because even if you get down to your goal weight, you still have to be vigilant, or else you'll find that number of the scale getting bigger again.
But, then I remember that, really, this is the hard part. Teaching myself to eat right, teaching myself to make the healthy choices, teaching myself to work exercise into my life, teaching myself to re-prioritize- to make my life and my health important to me- this is the hard part. Eventually, my habits will change. Every time I force myself now to choose the broccoli over mashed potatoes is setting up an easier future, where I don't have to force myself, where I don't think twice about grabbing an apple instead of chips or going for a walk instead of taking a nap!0 -
While it's counter productive, I totally understand the "Heck with it, I'm havin' a double cheeseburger" impulse.... (Homer Simpson drool). And it was particularly difficult to resist during the holiday season. It's easier for me now that the daylight hours are starting to lengthen again.0
-
I'm no doctor, but you kind of sound clinically depressed. Again, I don't have enough info, but I tend to agree with Edorice that maybe this surgery is not a good time for you. Are you getting a lot of pre-surgery counseling? Is there a good system afterwards?
Happiness can only come from within. We are all accountable in many many aspects of life. Our bodies is just one thing. Try to take comfort in that everyone who is striving for a healthy life must focus on making good choices - forever. And that one Cheesecake Factory sandwich isn't the end of the world. Eat it. Just don't eat the cake too. Then exercise a bit more than usual for a few days.
i for one am finding a natural high in feeling healthier. Did I have a few beers on Sunday while watching football? Yup. But I got back on track yesterday. Do your best to adopt a more positive attitude!! It will take you a lot farther!
(Disclaimer: I have a lot less weight I want to lose so I won't pretend to understand a lot of how you're feeling)
I am wishing you nothing but future success...0 -
You HAVE to give yourself off days. If you don't you will go crazy and end up...just like you are - burned out from dieting. Number one, you can't think of it as dieting, you just have to think of it as a life change. You aren't a teenager any more and your body no longer has a high metabolism.
I took both Saturday and Sunday off - we had a football party were I ate and ate and ate. I had a full rack of ribs for dinner last night. And yes, I'm up weight-wise from where I was last week. But today, I'm back on it. And I'll go two weeks eating as best as I can until our super bowl party where I know I'll eat a ton of food. And then, after the day is over, I'll get back on it.
"Dieting" is a short-term goal that will always fail. Eating responsibly and healthy is a long-term goal that will succeed. Make that your goal - to eat responsibly. At that might just mean eating a 2500 calorie lunch every so often just because it keeps you sane. Do not think of them as stumbling blocks, or road blocks to your goal, do not feel guilty about letting yourself go once and a while. Think of them as a reward for all the hard work that you do to eat healthy and exercise.0 -
Can I please point out to a lot of people that ONE bad day, ONE day of lacking motivation and feeling down doesn't mean that someone isn't ready to have a surgery like this or is clinically depressed- it means they're having a bad day! How about showing some support instead of being so judgmental! Usually on boards on this site, I've seen nothing but support for the OP, but I feel like some people are being really rude to Shanny! One day of wanting to say "Forget it, I'm eating the crap burger" isn't the end of the world. She's not saying she went out and ate the 1900 calorie sandwich and cheesecake; she's saying she's tempted! How about offer some motivation rather than chastise someone when they're already having a hard time staying motviated!!!0

borrowed this hope you don't mind! Very very well sd thanks for posting! Good luck to ya!0
