why am i so hungry?!

i started the whole "clean eating" thing 3 weeks ago. I did wonderful the first 2 weeks, and lost 8 lbs. I wasn't really craving anything, my body seemed to be handling the change well. this week, not so much. I have been ravenous it seems! I am constantly hungry. I'm still eating better, healthier, clean foods.. but it's like I can't get enough food. it's not actually real hunger. it's that I WANT TO EAT SOMETHING feeling. what the hell is happening? is my body finally paying me back for not giving it the crap it loves and wants? what can I do to fix it, and go back to just wanting food when I actually need it?
has anyone else experience this??

How many calories are you eating per day?0

What is your calorie intake?0

35540

Is your period next week? That's what happens to me. Chewing gum helps. And lots of water.
ETA: ditto the calorie intake question.0 -
honestly, I haven't been keeping track of my calories. I downloaded this app, and am just now really using it.0

I just had a d&c because I have never had normal periods.. so I have no idea when my period will start.0 -
Are you eating enough calories? Are you eating enough protein? Are you eating enough fat? Are you eating enough fiber?
Those would be the first things I'd suggest looking at as you start tracking your food.0 -
I feel like the calorie amount the app gave me was WAY too much. I know it depends on my weight and everything, but still.0

Eat more food.0

Too much for what? To lose 2 lbs per week? Try scaling back a bit and eating more food. You haven't really given the app a chance if you reject the MFP estimation out of hand and then don't even log your food. At least a few weeks or months, just for a trial period.0 -

I vote for the "perioding"...balance your meals.. and increase water consumption... are you paying attention to your macros? it's okay to overindulge a bit...so long as you amp up your activity level to compensate for the added calories... stick to it Girl.. you are going to be just fine0

Why oh why would anyone recommend chewing gum and drinking water when she is saying she's HUNGRY and not even logging food? FFS0

The best thing to do when you are hungry....IS EAT!!
Find the highest bulk items for the lowest food calories and go to town...
Here is what I eat when I don't have many calories, but tummy wants to eat
4 cups raw baby spinach
1/4 cup diced strawberries
1/4 cup blueberries
1 TBSP grated parmesan cheese
1/2 cucumber sliced
1 cup baby bella mushrooms sliced
1 cup broccoli tops
1 boiled egg
Dressing:
1/2 TBSP olive oil, light
2 TBSP fresh squeezed orange juice
1 TBSP fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/4 cup strawberries
(Blend in blender first, then pour on salad)
If you want to make that into a meal (increase oil to 1 TBSP) and add:
4 oz grilled chicken breast
2 strips crispy microwaved on paper towel bacon slices
The trick is to stuff your belly, but do it with the highest nutrient, lowest calorie foods that you can find. Stay away from sweets and "triggers" that you know will lead to binge eating. Mine is sugar. Give me a little and my body wants to eat the entire fridge if I don't give it more. So, I stay away from it (plus, I am T2 Diabetic)
Hope this helps0 -
Eat more protein and drink more water to stay fuller longer.
Fill up on veggies before every meal with a glass of water.
Allow yourself to have in moderation, some of the "bad" things you want. Key word moderation.
Otherwise you feel deprived and will gorge.0 -
i feel like this may have been asked....
HOW MANY CALORIES ARE YOU EATING A DAY?
EDIT: oh nm....i found the issue.
"honestly, I haven't been keeping track of my calories. I downloaded this app, and am just now really using it."
run your tdee (thats an estimate of how many cals your body burns doing your daily routine). youll likely be surprised at how high it is. eat 75-80% of that number and enjoy healthy sustainable weightloss.0 -

I dont know what your count should be but most calculators are about the same and calculate the same based on the numbers you enter. Take a look at this and see if this helps (http://authoritynutrition.com/how-many-calories-per-day/) where protein is your friend for your cravings and the more you eat you can reduce them. However everyone is different and your body will react differently based on what you feed it.
I personally eat 6 to 8 times a day portioned though. feed the body and it will drop the weight. just find your happy medium and it will take some people a short amount of time to do this and some a little longer. Stay with it and stay dedicated to the health that you want.0 -
READ THOSE!
dont replace food with gum....find out how much food you need and eat that amount of food.
and i gotta ask....
you said this:honestly, I haven't been keeping track of my calories. I downloaded this app, and am just now really using it.
this is a calorie counting web site. how are you using it?
have you read any posts or done any searches? i dont mean to sound like a prick, but thats how it will likely be read...youre hungry because youre eating too little because it sounds like youve done zero legwork to figure out how to really use the site. deep breath. read the threads referenced, do searches in the forums for specific questions you have, as they have likely been asked and answered already, dont fall into low carb, no sugar, no fat, eating at a certain time, or diet pill BS. you dont HAVE to eliminate anything from your diet to succeed at this.
you can do it! now dive in and make it so!0 -
A lot of people have lost weight simply by following the guidance and information available here. You may feel it's too high but until you start using the app the way its intended you won't know. Eat food, follow the links above, and oh yeah, eat food.0

Anytime I have been ravenously hungry, there two main possibilities:
1. Hormone shift because I'm about to get my period.
2. Not eating enough.
FWIW, I'm 5'7", 141.5 lb, and I eat about 1900 calories per day now to lose. I've never eaten less than 1500, even when I was nearly 40 lbs heavier. The number the app gave you to eat per day is probably more accurate than you think. You really can eat lots of food and lose weight - the idea is to eat as much as you can and still lose, not eat as little as possible.0 -

Feed your body and track your intake to get a good determination on how to adjust..
