Egg whites instead of Milk in Protein shakes

I ALWAYS use milk in my protein shakes, everyday. It's my get up and go before my first classes, and gives me the boost to get up the stairs with my 35lb back pack everyday. But regardless, today someone was talking about they switched too egg whites[RAW] with a tbsp of vanilla creamer, and a scoop of their favourite Protein shake, in my case its Muscle Pharm Orange creme. Today I just had to try it, I cracked the eggs and sifted the whites and the yolks myself. Had 6 egg whites with vanilla creamer and Muscle pharm protein shake mix, and blended away. I have never had a better tasting protein shake in my life. I ate the yolks cooked stove top with onion/celery/ and hot sauce, with paprika and pepper. So it worked out nicely and I had a big breakfast, which is what I like to do.
Just a topic to discuss, I have been looking for alternatives to Milk that wouldn't ruin that awesome creamy taste like water does, besides I love water and I like my water unaltered lol. Any other ideas out their? I know soy milk, almond milk, coconut milk, but maybe someone can surprise me like Mr. Egg whites did this morning!

    I do egg whites, but I buy them pasteurized in a carton so I don't get sick.

    Sometimes I'll throw a few egg whites in there if I need to get some more protein in for the day. Or if the shake is a little bit too thick, an egg white or two will usually get the consistency how I want it.

    But I still prefer to use milk, specifically almond milk because it's low calorie. I take the calories I save from almond milk, as opposed to regular milk, and eat some whole foods. Almond milk doesn't ruin the taste of the shake like you said - that's the most important thing for me.

    Avocado in a smoothie will give you that creamy, ice cream type of flavor. You really don't taste it, but it will color your drink green. If you're going to use raw eggs, I beg of you to buy organic, pastured eggs or eggs from someone who raises chickens that you know and trust the animal husbandry.

    I make a green smoothie every morning. 1 oz cream cheese, 1/2 a cup raw spinach, 1/2 an avocado, 1 raw egg, vanilla unsweetened almond milk, ice (stevia and cinnamon). Delicious

    Raw egg whites contain avidin and trypsin inhibitors. Avidin blocks the digestion of biotin, one of the B vitamins, and trypsin inhibitors make digestion of the protein in the egg white more difficult. Both enzymes are neutralized with cooking. So the bio-availability of protein is greater in cooked egg whites versus raw. You'll get more bang for your buck if you cook them.

    About 50% more which is nothing to sneeze at.
  • I only buy organic eggs, i cant really stomach much else even cooked, plus i use to live on a chicken farm, so i know my eggs and chickens lol. The avocado sounds delicious, must try that!

    First of all, I second the avocado thing. absolutely delicious. If you are watching calories, 1/4 of an avocado is enough to do the trick and not blow the calories through the roof.

    I don't have a substitute for milk, but if you want a super creamy smoothy, I have been making this:
    1 scoop unflavored whey protein concentrate
    8 oz water
    1/2 cup frozen fruit of your choice (I highly recommend mango)
    1 frozen banana
    a few stevia drops for sweetness if you like, and cinnamon and/or powdered ginger depending on what fruit you use
    an ice cube or 2

    the water does not make this watery! And I am sure you could substitute flavored protein if you wanted but I haven't tried it.
