I don't have to worry about deleting my browsing history or cookies. Our internet access in work is so restricted it is ridiculous. The Microsost Office Update Site is restricted (that will tell you how restricted our internet access is).
I always use my iPhone to browse the 'net when I'm killing a few minutes in work. It's also a lot easier to just put my phone face down on the desk if my boss walks in than trying to close the web browser on my computer :laugh:0 -
My boss isnt that smart :laugh:0
-
my boss doesn't care...I have my settings set to delete history and all passwords when the computer is turned off anyways. But yeah, as long as my work is done, and I do what I'm told in a timely manner, he told me I could bring in a book if I wanted to...but instead I download the PDF's lol0

you can delete your cookies & history but you're still going to leave a trail or some type of history. i wouldn't even worry about it. if you get fired for being on mfp, you probably was going to get fired anyway.0

I have google chrome. its all gone. Sure a thourough investigation will show something, but periferally, nothing. So no reason to investigate.0

Yeah i agree with this...
Plus i have seen what my boss has been looking at on the internet:blushing: :noway:
I have seen some cookies on his computer screen :laugh:0 -
as long as your on MFP that's "my fitness pal" and not "my freaky porn" your job should be safe.0
-
how do you delete it??0
-
when your internet browser is open, go the the right hand side where it says tools, click on "Internet Options" at the bottom, and half way down that grey tab it will say delete history, etc...0

Geek passing through...you can clear your cache, but the dreaded index.dat file knows all.

Can you get rid of that? Just curious.0 -
Personally I use CCleaner. Great program.

I even use it at work, but that is the benefit of being a geek....getting around certain rules.0 -

There is nothing wrong with being a geek...I get called that all the time...I bet ginny thinks it's sexy0 -

I do the same thing. This is why I'm hoping MFP will add capability to browse the forums from the iphone app.0 -
sadly, as a Senior IT guy, and the manager of an IT environment, I can tell you first hand, if you're browsing to MFP when you shouldn't be, and you have an IT department, they probably already know you're visiting the site, and how long each day you're logged in.
On the up side, if they do have this information, and they haven't either blocked the site at your firewall or specifically mentioned it to you, they probably don't care as it's not porn or gambling. Then again, they may just be logging it for one big crack down.
Now, there ARE ways around this particular issue. Proxies won't do it, any IT admin worth their salt will spot a proxy a mile away and kill it or yell at you for it. But you can do something like I do and RDP (remote desktop) to your home computer and browse from there. If you're internet connection's even reasonably fast, you should have next to zero lag. Course you need to know how to poke a hole in your home firewall to allow this, and you should probably set up some encryption at home so it requires more than just a username and password to log in, but those are different issues, which won't get you fired, it would just get your computer hacked eventually.0 -
oh and FYI, index.dat is a Internet Explorer thing. If you use Chrome (my personal choice) or Firefox, you don't have this. Also if you use Chrome or something other than "the big two (firefox and IE)" then any website monitoring software that your IT department uses to track your web browsing probably won't work very well, it may, but it may not, just an fyi.
Plus chrome is like 10 times faster than Internet Explorer.0 -
I use chrome. Purge a few times a day.0

If you're using chrome, just use an incognito window, close it & you're clean, Except for most corporate firewalls will log every address you visit, heck even most home firewalls will keep log of all sites you visit.
If you really don't want to be snooped upon, don't use company equipment to surf. MFP has an iPhone & Android app for data entry, and you can view the site comfortably on most tablet devices(Though you'll have to use something other than your companies WiFi to view if you don't want it logged)0
