Hi All, new to the site. just starting to get the hanfg of the app and loggin my food. i was just looking at the fitbit stuff and see people recommend HRM's instead. a si basically want to track how much i am actually burning day in day out. is their anything of the sort that can track 24/7 while at work, sleeping and in gym etc and that can sync with the app? ( i dont mind having to enter it manually worse case) but has to be accurate for daily use.

any advice / recommendations?

Thanks

Hi, the Fitbit Flex and Garmin Vivofit are both activity trackers that estimate your calorie burning and activity efforts. There has to be a bit of guess work in the calculations, as with anything that estiames how much calories you burn. There are other models on the market but the two I mentioned are both decent. I've used them both. They track sleep, steps and basic activities. You can use a ANT+ heart rate monitor with the Vivofit for added accuracy and extra information.

A GPS watch (with optional foot pod) takes tracking to a higher level but battery life can sometimes limit their use beyond 8 hours of activity. I'd go as far as saying that GPS watches are more suited to running, biking and extended periods walking outside.

I would start with an activity monitor and see how you get on. They definitely get you moving and can be calibrated for stride length so you can get a bit more accuracy for them.

    Good luck.
  • cheers mate, just done a search and seen so many threads and managed to agree on a fitbit flex for £30 via gumtree, i will see how this goes. and then look into the rest when taking it further.

    Thanks
