Traveling with Sports Equipment

Sooo I need some advice. My boyfriend and I are traveling from Maine to Orlando for a softball tournament and I'm TERRIFIED of him losing his bats out of his bag. Anyone have any good news on NOT losing sports equipment to ease my mind?!

    Our resort wont allow us to send a package there and them hold it until we arrive. I tried that route.
    My dad had no problem flying with his golf clubs so I'm sure flying with two softball bats will be ok
