It's My Birthday Today!

So why did I decide to jump back on the MFP bandwagon after two years YESTERDAY?! My planning skills are obviously sucky. While I've done well so far today (probably because no one at work remembered my birthday), I only have 500 calories left for the whole day. What about my birthday cake? :-(

    Happy Birthday!

Maybe you can fit in a long walk this evening. Regardless, enjoy some birthday cake!

Have an angel food cake! Only about 150 calories per slice which is 1/16 or 1/12 of a cake... can't quite remember :) With a little low fat Cool Whip, you still have room for dinner! Plus it's so fluffy... it's always been my favourite.

ETA: Oh and happy birthday hehe. :) Welcome back. Just think of coming back as a birthday gift to yourself that gives you more birthdays than you might have had otherwise. The gift of health! Woo!

ETA2: Oh and you could eat up to maintenance today if you want. It won't set you back (since you won't gain). That's what I tried to do for my birthday last week.

Just buy some Kings Hawaiian dinner rolls and a tub of Cool Whip (food coloring optional). And don't forget the candles!

Take a walk and enjoy your CAKE!!! Happy Birthday!
  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY! How do you want this year to be different from the rest? Then decide how YOU want to celebrate. Personally I'd eat half the cake, call a few friends, and dance the night away (what cake calories?).

I officially started a few days before my birthday too. I may have been a little sad over my inability to eat all the cheesecake I wanted. I had to politely decline a friends offer for lunch at Cheesecake Factory and everything.

    ETA: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :drinker:

    Happy cake and candles day!

Here's a good lesson for you then as you get back into learning a healthier way of eating. There will always be birthdays, anniversaries. holidays, etc. You have to find a way to make them fit into your plan. Most people will tell you to just have fun and not worry about it. I prefer a more middle of the road approach where I'll still indulge a bit and if I go over a few hundred or so it's no big deal but I'm not going to go completely wild because I know when I do that, it's very hard to come back to reality. We all have to find what works best for us.

Also, baby steps. I think you were the same one that said you didn't want to exercise because you go gung ho and then quit. This to me sounds like you've got the same attitude about dieting. Nice gradual changes and small goes work wonders, trust me. I used to the be the same way and then finally figured it out. Perfection is not required to lose weight.

Its your birthday, eat what you want.

Seriously, it only comes once a year. I feel the same way about major holidays too (Easter, Anniversary, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, & Christmas Day). They are so infrequent that splurging on those days doesn't make a difference in the long run. I tend to naturally eat less than I used to anyway because overeating now makes me sick.

The problem comes if you don't get right back to it the next day. They are one day, not a week. So splurge the day of and go right back to your calorie counting the next day.

It's your birthday. It's once a year. Please eat thousands of calories of birthday cake and get so drunk you forget about it all tomorrow :)

One day won't kill you - or make you gain any more than about a pound or two which won't be real fat anyway - can easily get it off again in a few days.

Happy Birthday! Have some cake, be merry, get back onto logging tomorrow. One day won't blow the whole thing - it's ok to have a higher calorie day every once in a while!

If you really don't want to jeopardise your calories, you could look at your calories for this week - have some cake today but eat a bit less and do some more exercise for the rest of the week to even things out.
