wtf is wrong with me?

I am by no means new to MFP or weight loss but lately ive fall off the bandwagon and I need to pick myself back up... but for new reasons now.
Ive recently had very odd symptoms when I eat. Headaches, nausea, hives all over my chest.. no idea whats going on. Its only when ive eaten pasta and some fruit. I really dont have the time right now to see a doctor and research has lead me to a million and one paths. Anyone have any idea what could be going on?

I'm also lacking motivation so some new friends would be greatly appreciated!! I'm a great support for anyone who needs it!

You are having a food allergy. I have those as well and you need to pay attention to what you eat to see which one is affecting you. Eat them separately.

As for falling off the bandwagon, I was left behind, so I know how you feel. I've gained 40 pounds and having knee surgery on top of it all hasn't helped much.

Hi Sharon! I think you should really check with your doctor about those symptoms. Checking the internet could mislead you. Just to be sure there is nothing extra going on...

Feel free to add me! I'll be glad to cheer you up in this path to a healthier life :)

Hi Sharon, only a suggestion, but do you wash/peel your fruit? Pesticides they are sprayed with can cause problems. The hives sound very much like a reaction to wheat, pasta? Regards Jazz

I do wash and peel my fruit.

As far as the pasta, would this be much like a gluten allergy? I am completely oblivious to gluten because I never thought I would grow into an intolerance for it.

It does sound very much like a food allergy - the hives particularly. I'd strongly advise making time to see a doctor and/or a dietician. I recently saw a dietician because I was having problems with food (bloating, diarrhea etc) and was put on a FODMAP diet to exclude certain carbohydrates. Problem solved. One of the things the dietician said was that I probably didn't have a food allergy because of the lack of allergic symptoms ... like hives.

I really don't know. Maybe try other wheat products and see if you get a reaction. As someone else said, try eating them separately. Give up on the pasta:) try wholemeal pasta. You have almost certainly an intolerance to one or the other. Maybe pesticides from the wheat again.

You're going to have to make time to see a Dr - that is the reality.

    Good luck!

It could be a food allergy. It was suggested to eat the food by itself which is a good idea and keep a log of how you feel before and after. Make an appointment with an allergist or a naturopath to find a diagnosis because hives for one can be internal as well.

    This...all day this...

Sorry, but yes. You need to seek a medical professional, either a primary care, a specialist, or if you don't have time during the day go to the ER. You are probably going to need to see an allergist and get allergy testing.

I agree see the dr. because something else could be going on. I started this journey when I was sick and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. It happend to be that I have a backwards appendix, which runs in my family. My symptoms were all wrong for the appendix. It took them weeks to figure it out. So I thought it was being over weight and started on weight watchers. Feel free to friend me. But please get that checked out!

I would definitely be very careful eating the pasta again at all. In fact, if at all possible cut it out of your diet along with any other processed grains for 3 weeks. I know it's a long time, but that's how I discovered my gluten allergy (advised by my Doctor). And my symptoms were much worse, so needless to say I'm much better off without it!

IMO- you're never going to find your motivation again if you can't even schedule a Dr's appt.

Living a healthy lifestyle (not just dieting to lose weight) is all about taking care of yourself- so go to the Dr. You're worth it.

Please, don't worry about the lack of coordination in your life, the headaches, the rotting skin falling off your body. Just stop eating gluten and it will all be better. so said MFP M.D.

    SERIOUSLY PEOPLE!

    Check with your doc

The only way to accurately diagnose gluten allergy is a biopsy from your intestine. Most people do not have gluten allergy, but most likely an intolerance or sensitivity. You will need to see your doctor.

Sounds like a food allergy and you need to find out what it is. If you keep eating it your subsequent reactions could get worse, meaning not just hives but shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, facial or tongue swelling, throat tightening and possible anaphylactic shock.

It's very easy for people to say CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR. But bear this in mind: stomach and allergy issues are notoriously expensive to diagnose, and a firm diagnosis will typically take more than a year to achieve. Even those diagnoses which you might think are easy to achieve (think diverticulitis, IBS, gallstones, etc) will be the product of many visits, allergy tests, ultrasounds, invasive internal biopsies, and needless to say, many hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

So I say the OP ask around and get a few ideas from people who have gone through the same thing. Yes she might well have to go to the doctor, but it might help narrow things down if someone has had a very similar experience to her and can suggest she try something simple.

My daughter has food alergies and gets hives if she accidentally eats something she shouldnt. Alergies to some foods can get worse over night causing anphlaxis. Dont risk it, see your doctor. You may need an epipen.
