Big hips do lie?

Hey everyone. I'm new and I've never done this on here before but just wanted to see if people would give some good tips/input. I've always had big hips and now that I'm way more into fitness I'm wanting to tighten up. I'm not super huge and know that you can't do anything to really lose from problems areas first (which is probably why they call it a problem area) but does anyone have any tips on condensing or helping make big/ hips and thighs get smaller besides squats and lunges. Help I want to keep my booty but shrink everything else if that makes sense.

Squats and lunges will build dat butt, and keep your thighs strong, meaning once you lose the fat that you have on them (and chances are, you see more than a dude does.), they'll be pretty tight and well formed.
Take some progressive loading and lifting though, that's all.
To add on to squats and lunges.
Box jumps
Squat jumps
Hip thrusters
GHDs0 -
I think running will help with your hips, of course you may lose some of your butt.
I started running and didn't like what was happening to my hips, so I stopped and now I do the Stationary Bike and HIIT on the Elliptical.0 -

Plus abductor, adductor (either machine or cables) and dead lifts -- mix of conventional, sumo, and Romanian.0 -
Deads, really?
I thought those were for pounding the bejeezus out of the glutes and hams.0 -

Think about what you're asking. You know you can't spot reduce yet you're asking for ways to spot reduce. You need to lose body fat via overall weightloss. Exercising your glutes will help keep them shapely as you lose weight, but there's nothing you can do to specifically shrink your hips/thighs.0 -
Eating at a deficit, with a decent amount of protein, combined with the weight lifting moves already mentioned will maintain muscle mass while you lose any extra fat.
The only caveat is that fat isn't choosy, it comes off from wherever it pleases. Spot reducing is a myth. Good luck!0 -
You cannot spot reduce. There is no specific exercise that will target the area you're currently concerned about. Your body loses fat where it wants to and there's no way to predict or target that.0

You missed the part where she said she wanted to keep her butt but shrink everything else....0 -
eh, that's why I mentioned squats, etc.
Deads should for that as well. At least build a strong, tight *kitten*.0 -
Wonderful! Thanks everyone for all your input. I know I can't spot reduce I'm just trying to find good ways to tighten and yah iv been working my butt off (literally) lately as I'm getting more into fitness so at this rate I should be there soon just get impatient with my problem area since I notice the difference from there last. My bum/leg day workout consists of cable kick backs, abductor, Bulgarian squats, lunges, and stairmaster for cardio. Is it better to switch up workouts from time to time or will the same workout still give you awesome results0

At the movie stars that have pear-shape bodies try and build muscles on their upper bodies to even out their shape.
So toning exercises down below and bigger weights up top :-)0 -
Ok awesome! How many reps should I be doing for dead lifting and how heavy should I start with0

Oh hi again!
I'm sorry I don't know what sort of weights you should be lifting, but the opinion around here seems to be that women can lift far more than they think, and that to build muscle you should lift to "exhaustion" at the end of your sets. Might be wrong... so maybe it would be best to get some guidance from a trainer at your gym.
Good luck :-)0
