Feel like I am losing my mind - all over a stomach bug.

Hi all, About 12 days ago (The 13th) I was out to eat lunch with my boyfriend and I got a stomach ache out of nowhere (like, I was perfectly fine before this, just eating my lunch) at the restaurant and had to go to the rest room... had some red blood, etc. That carried on for a few days, with some mucous mixed in. It's slowed down to 1-2 a day now, but I went to the doctor last thursday and she did a blood test, blood test came back all clear, went back this Monday and did a stool sample test, which the results are not back yet. I am terrified I have gone from being perfectly healthy/with perfect bowel function to something wrong. I've got health anxiety, obviously. It is eating me up. It's all I think about. I've never before had a stomach bug, so is it possible for slight diarrhea to stick around for this long after a stomach bug? Do your stomach and intestines just need to heal? I've come across things that say that, and the ER doctor said that could be the case, too. I am just so so scared.
 Has this happened to any of you guys before?

What did you eat? I've experienced something similar from oysters that had some oyster sickness (the day after I ate them, all of the oysters on the west coast had to get tossed). I had to go on Pepcid or one of those for awhile before it cleared up. It's probably bacterial and not a virus - you could try probiotics and see if that helps. I'm sorry you're going through that!!0

I've got no idea what I ate, or what happened. The, for lack of better words, diarrhea is still slight, so I am hoping it is just my body trying to get back to normal, its been 12 days thought and it sucks.0

Do you remember at all what you ate at the restaurant? Or what did you have earlier that day? Your doctor would probably benefit from that info as well.0

Yeah, it could've been anything from earlier that week, so it's a toss up basically.0

Well, then that does make diagnosis a bit more difficult. At this point, I'd not worry unnecessarily. Wait to see what the tests results say. That should be helpful.
If they are negative, maybe try an elimination diet. Be consistent and write things down. Then when you re-introduce foods keep close track of how your body reacts to them. Hope you feel better soon!0 -
thank you!0

Feel better soon! Stomach bugs are no fun, especially contagious ones when you live in a large family lol. When I lived with my family I always thought I was dying every time I caught that sickness.0

So first, I have to ask, how is it possible that you've never had a stomach bug? You never had the throwing-up-all-night stomach flu as a kid? How did you manage that?!
Anyway, this doesn't really sound like a typical stomach bug. Norovirus can linger and cause diarrhea for awhile but typically not blood. I'm thinking some kind of parasite (giardia maybe), which is probably what they are testing for in the stool sample. Have you done any travel to a developing country or drank water from a questionable source?0
