dieting with spina bifida.....

Hi everyone i am miranda,i am 20 yrs old,250lbs and have a birth defect called spina bifida and am a full time wheelchair user. Because of that,its really hard to lose weight and exercise. Ive tried i dont even know how many times to lose weight but havent managed it yet. But im trying again. I wanna get to be around 120-130lbs eventually.

    Check with your Doctor first then log every BLT(bite, lick and taste) that goes in your mouth. There are exercises you can do sitting as you probably know. I do the chair yoga and chair dancing videos when my back and legs aren't cooperating. Good Luck! I know you can do this!

    I agree with checking with a doctor first.

    Calories are the most important part of losing weight. You can lose weight without exercising as long as you are diligent on what goes in your mouth.

    Forgive my lack of knowledge of spina bifida - are you able to do upper body exercises? There are many options there you could try, and perhaps someone like a physical therapist or personal trainer would be able to make a program for you to follow.

    Ive already been to a doctor and am also seeing a nutritionist but the nutritionist dont know very much about spina bifida and thats okay not many people know about spina bifida but yes i can do upper body exercise. I can do swimming as well but we nor anyone we know have a pool :-(

    Definitely track everything that goes into your mouth. You can and will lose weight just by tracking. Since you are in a wheelchair, I would suggest lifting weights. Start small and gradually increase as it becomes easier and easier to lift. A pool would be a great place for some water aerobics. Do you have a YMCA where you live or maybe a Community College that allows the public to swim?

    @chubbynow,yes i do have a ymca fairly nearby i just have to wait till my dad starts getting paid at new job on october 3 before i can signup cuz im on disability and cant afford it while im paying all the bills and such
