I have such an unhealthy relationship with food

I gained weight recently so I decided to join the MFP community.
Since then I have logged my food everyday and have come to realise on average I eat over 2,000 calories a day.
My day could be going well and then all of a sudden I end up eating one thing that's 1,000 so it spoils my whole day.

I am obsessed with thinking about food.
I binge eat so frequently.
I have no will power.

No one supports or understands me because I am not overweight, I don't 'need' to lose weight.
I feel under pressure to eat bad food around others because they are eating unhealthy and they will judge me for opting for a salad over a pizza even though my tummy would genuinely prefer the salad.

I want to love myself and have a healthy relationship with food.
I suffer from GERD (acid reflux, bloating, burping all the time) but this doesn't prevent me from stuffing my face until I feel so full it physically hurts. I don't understand how anybody can have a few crisps and not eat the whole large bag to themselves. I will eat any amount of junk food in one go no matter how full I am I just can't control myself.

I know I would feel so much better inside and out if I had a healthy lifestyle but I lack the will power. I'm so lazy.
I live at home with my family at the moment but in 2 days I move to a new country so I need to have a better lifestyle.

I'd love to know your thoughts, suggestions, experiences etc.

Thanks

I'm a binge eater too. There's no easy answer. If it's really bad you should probably seek counseling. I just try to go day-by-day. Good luck.

You say you feel pressured to eat when other people are eating because they'll judge you. The thing is, they're pressuring you because they feel judged when they don't opt for the better choice. That's on them, not on you.

I used to have an unhealthy relationship with food starting from when I was a kid. I never thought to seek professional help, but that may be something for you to consider. This is my experience. I'm just posting the link to my blog, because it's too long for a post here. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/CallMeCupcakeDammit/view/-little-by-little-one-travels-far-679957 Maybe you'll see something that helps you. Good luck, OP.

You're totally right! Next time I'm out I'm going to order whatever I like and if I feel any negativity from someone I'll politely explain this to them. "Are you judging me for getting a salad or are you judging yourself for not getting a salad?" MIND BLOWN.

When I'm around others I never have the urge to binge eat like I'd actually rather have the healthy option so I get upset when I'm 'forced' to eat unhealthy as I know later on I'm probably going to end up having a binge alone anyway!

Check in first with your physician, then with a therapist. You stated you were obsessed. No online site can deal effectively with addiction or obsession.

  • I used to have that problem of overeating, I had to see a food counsellor, they gave me Ideas to stop my issue. For me I realized I was depressed and I ate to make me feel good. I dealt with the depression and the weight loss commenced for me. When I feel like eating until I feel sick I drink a lot of water. I do not have any junk food in the house so I have no temptations. as a treat I buy it once a month. Might help to take the junk out of the house.

I was in a restaurant earlier and ate a whole pizza even though I was full after half.
Definitely have to learn to not finish what's on my plate if I'm full.
When I was little I was also encouraged to finish everything on my plate. Funny how we are conditioned!

100% agree I'm never buying junk food in my new apartment. It's annoying living at home because others fill the house with junk food that I then eat.

I'm pretty sure being sent to school with a bowl of oatmeal on my head was what finally sealed the deal for me. It's nice to be able to eat just one or two Oreos and walk away from them now. It's easy to get caught up in the "fun" of eating out with your friends. You get to choose what you put in your body, though, not them.
