Quinoa

Silly question.......but what does quinoa taste like? And how would I prepare it? Keep in mind I don't like to make very complicated meals that take forever because I am a Mom and I work full time too.

I treat it like a brown rice. So I use it to make quick lunches for myself like quinoa, vegs (like broccoli, carrots, cauliflower), and a lean meat (grilled chicken or pork). I usually throw in some hot sauce too for a little added flavor dimension and mix it all together like a stir-fry kinda thing. My kids won't eat it. It's something I buy for meal preppin' for myself.0

Like a nutty rice. I think it's quite tasty. I usually cook it in broth if it's a dinner food. Sometimes we use it in place of oats for breakfast...0

How long does it take to cook?0

Same amount of time as rice. I just throw it in my rice cooker and turn it on. Takes like 20 minutes.
I mix it with eggs and make breakfast muffins.0 -
about 15 minutes you boil it.
I half cook it and then when I bung it in the microwave at lunch it isn't over cooked.0 -
1/2 cup quinoa + 1 cup water, simmer for 15 minutes, let stand for 5 minutes, fluff with fork, eat...makes 2 servings.
I like it plain, or make a pilaf by adding it to a sauté of a bit of olive oil, minced garlic, diced red pepper and diced mango...yum!0 -
Awesome...thanks for the input everyone...you all are an inspiration to me! I am adding quinoa to my grocery list.0

I use it as a "supplement" .. by adding it to other dishes, like salads, stews... soups... cook it like oatmeal then put it in the fridge so it's there when I want to add it0

I've made it sweet (by adding stevia and cinnamon) and savory (adding garlic/onion, etc.)... I've also mixed it with scrambled eggs.
I love it...0 -
Like a nutty rice.
This. A very mild nutty rice.
I have quinoa cocoa puffs cereal, lol, and people have given me quinoa cookies. It's pretty versatile.
I've thrown it into the crockpot as an add-in to vegetarian chilli. Quinoa stuffed peppers are good too.0 -
Fwiw, costco has frozen organic quionoa/kale packs that are very handy and tasty. Just note that a bag is not ONE serving.0

It is really yummy. Like others have said, use it where you would use rice.
I usually make my family white rice and myself a serving of quinoa instead (they would eat the quinoa too, but it is expensive so I may as well just eat it for me)0 -
It's delicious, try cooking it with stock and adding diced onions and mushrooms to it (fried first). Olives and feta are also great additions.
Or have it as a dessert like a rice pudding, or a replacement for oatmeal/porridge. It's very versatile.0 -
I tried it very good and keeps u full longer I will definitely buy it again0

I use it as a filler in chili - makes it nice and thick in place of ground beef. I've also had quinoa pancakes and quinoa salad - I agree, tiny nutty brown rice. Kinda pops in your mouth like tobiko.0

Rinse it really well or it can have a pretty sandy texture.0

Cooks really well in our rice cooker. Just watch the calories... they can get out of hand pretty quick.0
