PB2! Who tried? What is the catch?

I have seen some info about PB2. It has only 45 cals per 2 Tbsp vs Regular peanut butter which has 190 cals per 2 Tbsp.

I looked up ingredients and there are only "Roasted peanuts, sugar and salt". No splenda or other artificial c**p.

What is the trick? I never believe in reduced calories staff because it is packed with chemicals.

Would you recommend it?!!!

it is good stuff. The closest to peanut butter you will get without eating the real deal. Walden Farms makes a fat free, calorie free, sugar free peanut butter that sucks. This you mix with water and its pretty darn good. Not only that, but you can add it as a powder to smoothies, yogurt, puddings, etc. to add peanut butter flavor.

I haven't tried it yet. From the website, it looks like basically all the oil is removed, which would definitely drop the calories.

I personally love it. It does lack a bit of the flavor of full fledged peanut butter, but in reality it's the real deal minus the calories and fat. What they do is squeeze the peanuts in a press...the oil is removed (along with a large portion of the fat and calories). What you have left is PB2. It's okay when 'reconstituted' with water and spread on things, but it's best use is mixed with other things such as a smoothie, in oatmeal, etc.
  • OMG! I have to try it now! My favourite is - adding PB into my oatmeal in the morning! That should definately help to reduce those cals!
Thank you all for your responses!!!!:flowerforyou:
  • I want to try it -- where does one purchase it, besides online? Is it available in any chain stores?
  • I found only online so far! I guess you can look in those "very healthy and expensive stores"
  • I just placed my order on Amazon. Good bye, regular peanut butter! ))):drinker:

  • The web site has a "find a retail location near you" link. http://www.bellplantation.com/products/locator I found a store called D'Lites, 5miles from me, that carries it! Better yet, I also discovered that the same store carried Vitalicious products (with a much better variety than Publix, my grocery-store chain)! Looks like I'll be making a trip there today!!

Why does peanut butter need sugar?

Why does peanut butter need sugar?

If I had to guess I'd say it's to appeal to the mass market crowd. When I made the switch from Skippy and Jif to natural PB it took a little time getting used to the stronger peanut flavor. I prefer it now but I can imagine some people are turned off by a strong peanut taste.

    I love PB2!!

I found it at the commissary for those of you that have access to one and it's very reasonably priced there!

Hopefully, it will become more available and hit the mainstream stores soon!

    Yes, and yes.

I just recently made the switch from reg. peanut butter to natural peanut butter... only ingredient... peanuts. It has definitely taken some getting used to. I don't care for PB&J sandwiches anymore because the flavor is so different, I love it stirred into things that already have natural sugars and with an apple the natural peanut butter is heavenly, but its still taking some getting used to, so I'm definitely interested in trying the PB2.

Never heard about peanut butter without sugar! Will look for this one too!

How many calories in natural peanut butter made just from nuts?

On the contrary, I've never heard OR seen peanut butter WITH sugar!! Is this an American thing? I'm in Canada, I've never seen this on the shelves, lol! I eat "all natural" peanut butter - with NOTHING but squished peanuts as the only ingredient. I can't recall, but I think it's about 100 calories a tbsp

Edit: I double checked and it's 90 calories per tbsp (I was close!). It's in the database here. There's also an all-natural whipped version - less calories!

I have never had any peanut butter before I moved to America. So, I'm not sure if it is American thing, or North American thing. I tried regular peanut butter Jiff, or Skippy or any other brand and liked it.

What I like about PB2 that there is less amount of fat. I DO eat sugar in moderation. (rather then substitutes)

I will try all natural PB too. I think it is going to be 2 different options: either more sugar(PB2) or more fat(all natural penut butter)!
  • As promised, I went out and bought the PB2, lol. The Bell Plantation web site has a ton of recipes, I altered one slightly for a fruit/celery dip based on what I had in my kitchen, and let me just say.... absolutely DELISH!! I can't wait to continue using this product.
  • Yay! I'm very happy! ))) It is a HUGE calorie cut! From 190 to just 45! And I LOVE peanut butter! Life is good ! ))))))))) LOL!
