Where to find calories for restaurants?

Is there a good online site to find how many calories are in foods at different restaurants?

I caved and went to Burger King once in January (we were out shopping and needed something to eat). I really like how you can go on their site and "build" your meal, and it will tell you all of the nutritional facts, even condiments on your food.

For the fun of it I went onto Outbacks and Olive Gardens website and didn't see anything.

For fast foods try here; http://www.fastfood.com/nutrition/

But predominately you just have to go to the restaurants main page. If they don't have one you can email them but I guarantee their answer is they are working on it. I could calculate a menu in an hour, don't know why they need to hire a nutritionist. Oh well ;)

EDIT: Ahhhh the nutritionist probably has to sign a confidentiality contract so that the recipes aren't stolen. I would sign that! I would use the recipes at home though, tee hee naughty naught!

Most chain restaurants have them under the "menu" section of their websites.

    Outback: http://www.outback.com/menu/nutritionselection.aspx

    Olive Garden: http://www.olivegarden.com/menus/garden_fare/nutrition_information.asp

I don’t know of any sites, but most restaurants have that information on line, I’m surprised those two don’t. If they don’t I guess you just have to keep track of what you eat and enter it here on the calculator to see how many you had. Or most at least have their menu on line, you can pick what you want then calculate here, before you go.

I use calorieking.com for stuff like that. Also, if you just go your food diary and type in burger king it will bring up a ton of food for you to choose from. :)
  • Get a calorie king book. They sell them at Walmart and or fairly reasonable. It has updated calorie information on EVERYTHING including restaurants. It is small enough to fit in a purse so you will have with you at all times. I have a 2008 version and love  it but the 2011 version is out now.
  • Olive garden does not have nutrition info cause you would never go there if you only knew. I do love that place but am really happy we do not have one where I live.

You have to be careful still when eating out because in instance of restaurant, they are not measuring out oil and each cook/chef is going to use different amounts same with cheeses, sour cream, ect- will never be the exact same. Even in the case of the supposed Applebees low calorie and fat in their meals, it came to light that their meals were higher than stated : http://restaurant-hospitality.com/news/menu-labeling-right-sued-0121/

The only way to accurate know what is in your meal is to make it yourself.

And yes their stuff is pretty fattening, but it is so tasty haha! There are a few things on there that are not too terrible though!

And even if the site doesn't have it listed anywhere on the site (sometimes it's well hidden, I've found 'em under FAQ's before) you can always e-mail the restaurant, tell them your location and ask for the nutritional info. So far I've only ever had one place not reply at all and one place (Tony Roma's) didn't disclose it.

But with the new FDA rules anyplace that has 25 or more locations will be required by law to provide the information. The original deadline was March but that might be extended. But we should be seeing more and new places providing info.

For compilations of data, I can't help with a website, but if you have an iPhone (or, I'd assume other smartphones w/apps) you have a lot of possibilities. I have three or four apps that are all restaurant and fast food nutrition info.
