First day and wouldnt you know it.. its mid terms.. I can do this.. I just need to find the right "brain food for energy and focus".
Since I am new at trully caring about how I eat and what I drink.. I am open to suggestions!

I can't get through any of my classes without pretzels stix and grapes. I suck on them so they last most of the class:) I am only three weeks into my classes but also taking Psych. Good Luck!0

I love having smoothies, plus they can be full of all of that yummy energy for your brain! They are pretty filling as well as full of good nutrients (as long as you make them anyways!) Good luck with your exams!

Hi Mark - I have a blog about my nutritional program that has kept me in great condition (mentally and physically) since I started it. My blog is a diary but you'll find some good resources. You may find Slow Food, Clean Eating, The Weston Price Foundation and Michael Pollan's Food Rules useful resources for getting on track with an overall approach. If you're not a vegetarian, U.S. Wellness Meats has amazing beef jerky snacks you can bring to class and Vital Choice has a "student brain food pack" that's killer. My nutritionist has me on a brain food stamina program of high protein and low carb balance which has kept me very strong and alert and stress free. Check out my food diary at my page to see how I eat and a link to my blog will be at my page also. As for smoothies, they are wonderful if prepared properly. You can't buy them somewhere; you have to make them yourself. I use Whey protein to balance the carbs, and I use raw green stevia (Navitas Naturals sells this) or slightly aged (dark spotted skin) bananas to sweeten. I don't use any refined sugars in my nutrition plan. My base is a raw milk (or good quality organic milk), organic frozen fruit, whey protein, plain whole milk yogurt, sometimes an additional nutrient like Amazing Grass Super Food, or coconut manna. Lastly, you may want to add a high quality (mercury free) omega fish oil to your nutrient supplements... I use Ultimate Omega by Nordic Naturals, but Carlson has a great more affordable one also; that will help with your brain. Keep snacks with you: almonds, carrots/veggies, beef jerky, limited dried fruits and popcorn without oil can be good. If you have the means/resources and you really wanna go hog wild on getting super healthy, you can consider investing in a dehydrator-- Nesco has one for around $50 and you can make your own portable veggie snacks. My overall point is, if you keep your calorie intake (carbs, fat, protein) balanced with the nutrients you need from whole foods, you'll get less hunger pains and have more focus.Good Luck!!0
