Will you open your diary to friends?

Are we being honest in our diaries? If not, why be here? I find my diary helps me see what does/does not work for me....and enjoy getting ideas from others diaries...not looking to judge , just for ideas and help on this journey.

My diary is open to everyone. However, I use mine as a planning tool, not as a way to keep myself accountable by logging what I've already eaten. I rarely deviate from my plan, but this past weekend I did. I didn't bother to go back and put the extra junk in there that I ate, because the way I use it, that wouldn't be useful to me.0

I have mine open to friends. I think it's kind of silly to NOT open it to friends honestly. we're all here for the same thing---to be healthy. I'm sure people can understand if someone has a bad day, etc. And I'm certainly not going to judge people based on what they eat...that's on them.0

Mine is public. I make almost all of my food, I rarely eat processed stuff. (I did last night though.)0

Mine is open to friends, but it's mostly so we can borrow meal ideas, and know how nutritious the meal was. I love seeing what other people do with something as versatile as pancakes, or wildrice.0

Mine is public, I log everything and don't mind people having a look. I often have a look at others diaries...not to have an opinion...but to look for great meal ideas0

Im honest in mine but Ive kept mine priivate for now.
There is no use cheating in it as you are only cheating yourself , so there is no gain in doing it.
All you would see in mine is chicken breasts and veggies and oatmeal plus any junk I give in to.

Mine is open to my friends. I figure my friends are supposed to be there for support and they can't offer complete support if they can't see what I'm doing0

I'm completely 100% honest in my diary but I'm not always going to or willing to keep it open. My main reason for this is seeing how completely insane some people are around here about food. I eat 'relatively' healthily naturally and only really need to curtail my portion sizes and gross calories per day for example. I don't need people look at my diary and thinking because I eat a tortilla that I'm junking out on processed foods for example! I'm trying to increase my health- not be paranoid by the judgments of others. I can see why it is useful to have other people look at it if you run into questions/issues, or b/c some people might need the pressure of public disclosure to stay honest. I don't need that. I'm extremely honest with myself and I trust myself. I'm not a junkie looking for heroine.0

I was kind of hesitant to open my diary at all...just because I didn't want people to know my weight - as if anyone cares! I am new to this site, and I'm not sure what my diary will contain. I do plan on being honest in my journey to get healthy! Feel free to add me as a friend!0

So...I have been using MFP for 5 weeks. I did not even know that 1. you can share diary with friends or public and 2. that I can also track something other than calories, protein, fat, and carbs. I loaded fiber and sugar as well now.
I love this site, and even if the calorie count is off on some of the preset foods, I just adjust them for others. It is working for me!
Thanks for the great tips. So far I only have one friend. He is on it regularly and we love to encourage each other. It would be great to get others too.

Go to "My Home" then "settings" then "Update Diary Settings" from there you can choose to make your diary public. Right .now, yours is not.0 -

Mine is open. It's a very personal thing, whether to open or not. But I do love to look at others diaries for ideas. That's how I got hooked on endamame, and then got someone else hooked by looking at my diary! I love that aspect of open diaries.0

Being that I'm new here...I don't mind showing people my diary. If this is going to be a real community, then it would be beneficial to see everyone to see others diaries. Just my two cents...0

My diary is open to everyone. I use to have it private, but decided there is no point in hiding it any more. If you look through it, you will notice that I don't keep very good track on weekends because these are my free days (by free I don't mean eat whatever I want, but I just dont keep track of everything. I still hold myself accountable for what I eat just not tracking it) Before I opened it up I was afraid that people would judge me, but I have come to realize most people are like me and not perfect. Take today for example: I was doing really well and thought I could have one cookie, but it turned into 2 cookies and some chips. I'm NOT going over my calories for the day since I worked out this morning, but I feeling like crap physically and mentaly for eating the cookies Lesson learned, so no need to hide it.0

I've been pretty darn successful on this site, so I figure I may as well have it public so other people can take a look and be reassured / get ideas / see that even eating out and sometimes having cake and such can still fit into a healthy lifestyle change-- (I'm definitely one of the people with less-than-saintly eating habits, even now).0 -
Yes mine is open too. Sometimes I wish it was not - especially when I look at the nights when we are entertaining or out for dinner. So much wine - but there it is - you have to bad sometimes to realise when you are being good.

I am really honest in mine. I track everything in it, good, bad or ugly. It's the only way I can work out what does and doesn't work for me. I've also changed the headings.

I track everything I eat, the only exception is if we decide to go out to dinner and specifically not track what we eat. Sometimes you just don't to be THOSE people, and just enjoy the food someone else has cooked for you.0 -
Mine is public BUT I only use it to gauge up until I get home. I pack a bunch of stuff, enter what I eat or feel like eating then I do the rest from memory since I eat pretty much the same few things all the time. I know exactly the portions I need to fill in any gaps. I eat mostly veggies from 5PM on anyways. Since I'm a Paleo, there really is no counting of calories if you keep it pretty strict. It's hard to over-eat when you can eat all the veggies and fruit you want and get your protein needs. I always have protein or almonds/walnuts(fats) before fruit to slow the insulin response.0
