Yesterday was my B-day and my GF had a nice dinner planned for us at a steakhouse. Ive been really dedicated to my diet and exercise (haven't Cheated ONCE). But yesterday i hoarded all my calories for My Dinner and i ended up downing about 1800 calories. I didn't go over calories but i feel like i might have done more harm then good.

Breakfast Greek Yorgurt W/honey

Lunch Large Organic Navel Orange

Dinner 8oz Filet Mignon, Creamed Spinach, 3oz Sauteed Shrimp, Asparagus w/Holindaise, Harvest Salad w/goat cheese and pecans, And 2oz of assorted dessert

Snacks NONE

I feel horrible about this and what could i have done different?

    Okay. Stop.

It was your Birthday!!! Lighten up!!!

Today you will eat less. It's okay - stop beating yourself up. You have to allow yourself a Filet and dessert ocassionally or you will give up. You only fail if you quit. :flowerforyou:

    Oh, and Happy Birthday, BTW.

Now drop and give me 20.
  • Sounds like Ruth Chris steakhouse. I'm going there for Valentines Day on Monday and am having the same "moral" debate on if I should hoard my calories or scale back on my ordering.

    Happy Birthday :)
  • LOL!!! Thanks Guys. I feel a little better i just wish it would warm up so i could get my Mountain Bike ON
  • Like everyone else it's ok you have to stop beating yourself up about it. If you stay in this frame of mind you may go back to all the bad habits. Stay Positive.
  • Yeah It was. Its a great place just not very informative on there nutritional facts
  • My birthday was on the 1st of this month. I definitely ate bad. The next day, I saw a rise in my weight by 2 pounds. I didn't freak out, I expected it, and just worked hard that day on eating well and exercising. The next day...boom. Gone. Like it never happened. As long as it's a rare treat, it will not hurt you. Just keep focused the rest of the time. Happy birthday!

    been there, done that!
someone shared this with me & it worked...
drink lots of water to rid that sodium content from that meal.
& next time box up half your meal right away & take it home for another day.
half the meal, half the calories! good luck!

OK, first things first, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! ;) It's your birthday, so you deserved a "cheat day". Looks like you were OK on your calories, so don't fret too much! But, if you want to be able to eat out and not feel so guilty, try this next time:

    1. Order the asparagus with NO Hollandaise sauce,
    2. Request that the steak and shrimp be prepared with no butter or as little as possible
    3. Get the dressing on the side for the salad and use as little as possible
    4. Maybe skip the cheese on the salad OR order steamed veggies with no butter OR get a double order of asparagus.

As far as dessert goes, for your birthday, you deserve a treat, so indulge a little...just don't order dessert every time you eat out.

A few weeks ago, we went out to celebrate my nephew's birthday. The menu had blackened mahi covered in a crawfish sauce, served over a bed of cajun rice with steamed brocolli. I ordered it without the rice and crawfish sauce and requested no butter on the brocolli. I was able to enjoy a flovorful meal out with the family for under 350 calories. It was a HUGE step for me to be a "picky or demanding customer", but it was WORTH it. It's small choices like this that make a HUGE difference over time.

    Good luck on your journey!

Happy Birthday! You have absolutely nothing to feel horrible about--especially since you didn't go over your calories! My birthday was last week and I went out to dinner more than once to celebrate. I ate and drank way too much--including  dessert--and went WAY over my 1200 calories. But it was my birthday and I had a good time so I didn't let it get to me. Luckily (I should probably say miraculously) my weight didn't go up. Everyone needs a break once in a while or there's no way you can keep this up. Just get back on track today and don't let this get you down.

ALSO - spiking your calories is apparently a good thing. I purposely put in days where I go over my goal by 200-300 calories. It is supposed to confuse your metabolism.

Just make sure to drink plenty of water today.
  • Thanks for all The birthday wishes and for all the great suggestions I have a plan of attack on my next Big Night Out. Right now im just gonna rehydrate and try not to think about it so much.
