now do you guys drink coffee? i could give up soda but i don't think i can give up my coffee as easily. i only drink 1 cup 2-3/week but i sure love it!

You should get hooked on something like tea or a juice thats low in sugar, HFCS, calorise, and artifisal flavors!0

This is so cool reading through these i noticed that i kinda urged people to quit and changed there lives! The thing is with coffee is what you put in it if you putting a crud load of sugar and creamer it makes it 100 times worse so I would suggest useing agave its a all natural sweeten (not that sugar isnt) that has less calories and is acually better for you and a light creamer or skim milk! But if you NEED that sugar and dont want to get it from candy or sweets make this resipe!
What you will need.
Frozen strawberrys (6)
1 tsp of agave or 2tsp of sugar
and maybe a dolup of whip cream.
Put the strawberrys in a bowl and microwave for 1min then take out and with a fork genly smosh them this the juice kinda flow out. Nexa add the sugar of agave and place in microwave for 30secs and take out. Now place them in the freezer for 10-20min or util cold to the touch, take out and smash them if needed more. Now you should have a chunky soupy desert! Its aually about 66 calories! Its perfect for a late night treat too!:flowerforyou:0 -

Gave up soda for new years. After a few weeks of really struggling with cravings, they finally went away. Now I mostly drink water, and I can already tell the difference it's making. I didn't lose any weight (I only ever drank diet) but I feel so much less BLOATED all the time. I also don't get headaches as often, and my body just feels better overall. I never thought I'd be able to stop, but now I never want to start again!0

Before starting MFP, I would have to get a soft drink anytime we went out for mexican food or pizza--I'd even get refills. Since I've started MFP, I have found it very easy to give up sodas. I don't like the after-taste of diet sodas, and I would much rather eat my calories than drink them. I have had 2 sodas since the middle of November, and I can honestly say I could have lived without them. :happy:0

Sugar is the enemy. I banned all sodas, choclates, just candy in general and I have no need for it. It only took like 4 days to not even crave it any more.0

I've given soda a mostly ban. I will drink Sprite once in a while- as in once every two months or so I'll find myself at a restaurant and want something sweet and bubbly. Even then I end up getting water with it and only drinking about half of the drink because by then, I'm satisfied on sugar and bubbly and can't drink any more even if I wanted to. Once every few months in a very sparing quantity isn't going to do any harm and that's really only how often I want a drink of it. Anything more than that and I can't stand it.
Fast food however has got a solid ban, I haven't touched it for a good 5 years or so. I tried eating fast food after I'd not touched it for a year and it made me sick. --* Can't eat it now even if I wanted to. I can't complain though!0 -
scary, no more diet Coke for me either. I have always known it is bead but I feel deprived without a fizzy something to drink. Mineral water it is!0

I'm trying to kick soda out of my body for good. I'm almost there.
I made a rule that I can't drink soda until I've drunk 10 glasses (8oz) of water. I very rarely make my quota before 7pm and by then, it's too late to drink a soda.
Today was a rare exception. I had an 18 hour workday and would be dead on my feet with out it. I had a single can of Diet Coke.
I hope to eradicate it from my diet entirely in the coming months.0 -
I can't even remember the last time I drank soda. Luckily, I don't even crave them at all. I feel so much better without them! WOOT!0

Soda is bad because of all the chemicals they add into it (not to mention the sugar- if you drink regular).
There are "natural" sodas like Zevia. http://www.zevia.com They are diet because they use Stevia (plant!) to sweeten, not aspartame or sugar. To flavor they use ginger root, and different plant extracts depending on the soda flavor.
Just an idea for people who still occasionally want to drink soda, but not all the garbage that goes with it!
Also- someone mentioned alcohol. Red wine was actually recommended by my dietitian to drink daily. A small glass of it! High levels of antioxidants.0 -
I've been off sodas for a little over a month. I had thought I'd miss it but really it doesn't even faze me at all now. I have to agree with many of the other posters, I feel so much better and less bloated now that I'm not taking in the sodas.0

This is what I keep reading to remind myself to not drink pop...I used to not drink more than maybe a can or two a month, but I've fallen off that wagon. Here's an huge reason why I didn't before and am going to stop again!

Have you ever wondered why Coke comes with a smile? Because it gets you high. They removed the cocaine almost 100 years ago. Why? It was redundant.
In the first 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor, allowing you to keep it down.
20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (And there’s plenty of that at this particular moment.)

If you think people are hooked on Coke, it seems like Diet Coke has added a new meaning to the word addicted. It’s not hard to find someone who drinks several cans a day. Everyone seems to think that it’s totally fine for your body, since it doesn’t have any calories. In fact, the communications director of Coca-Cola North America is quoted as saying, “Great taste. No calories. Wholesome ingredients. How could you drink too much?”
We’re not sure exactly which wholesome ingredients he’s talking about. If you check out our post about the effects of Coke on your body, you’ll see that several of the negative health aspects of Coke don’t have anything to do with the high-fructose corn syrup it contains. So we broke down the ingredients of Diet Coke, and what they do to your system.
Carbonated water: This can irritate your digestive system, triggering Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Caramel color: According to the Journal of American Medical Association, there’s some evidence that caramel coloring could increase insulin resistance, which can lead to diabetes.
Aspartame: This chemical sweetener replaces the “bad” high-fructose corn syrup found in regular Coke, but could be bad for you in its own way. There have been studies for years linking aspartame to cancer, and while the FDA has claimed that there’s been thorough testing on the chemical, not everyone is convinced. In 1995, the Department of Health and Human Services submitted a list of aspartame side effects to the FDA, which included headaches, seizures, neurological problems, and abdominal pain, and nausea. Also, when aspartame is ingested, it breaks down into a variety of chemicals, including formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen, and can also cause abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, and damage to internal organs and the central nervous system.
Phosphoric acid: This ingredient gives Diet Coke a tangy taste. Oh, and it can also be used to remove rust on surfaces. Phosphoric acid has been linked to low bone density in several studies, as well as kidney stones. The phosphoric acid binds with zinc, calcium, and magnesium in your lower intestine, which would be good for your bones, but the caffeine in Diet Coke makes you pee it all out before that happens.
Potassium Benzoate: This preservative keeps your Diet Coke fresh. Coincidentally, it also gives fireworks that annoying whistle.
Citric acid: You know that slightly citrus-y taste you love so much in your Diet Coke? That’s thanks to citric acid. It can ruin your tooth enamel and lead to decay.
Caffeine: Your body absorbs caffeine within 40 minutes, causing your pupils to dilate and your blood pressure to rise. It can also lead to ulcers, since it increases the production of stomach acid.0 -
I have been soda free for 3 months now.. I dont miss it abit. Mainly drink water now. I cup of milk daily. I treat myself to some decaf tea from time to time... With alittle vodka added from time to time ;} I also gave up drinking beer , all caffeine and have been tobacco free for 6 months :}0

I've certainly been trying this past week. My original goal was no soda unless I could fit it within my daily cals but I've decided to quit it in general. So far I can only think of two times when I had soda....once was when I hadn't eaten all day and the other was an energy drink, which I don't consider soda but I think I would like to quit anyway.0

I have found giving them up very difficult, especially with a wife who is addicted to Diet Coke.
But today, for the first time, I have made it this late with NONE. (Not even cheating, and stealing sips of hers like I have the past two days.)
It hasn't been too hard, though I do honestly miss the flavor.0 -
