a friend just told me that she is on a "diet" and all she is aloud to eat (im assuming meat wise?) is fish or chicken, and she doesnt like fish so all she eats is chicken.
what kind of diet is that? she was complaining because shes sick of chicken and i told her that unless whatever "diet" she is on can become a lifestyle, all shes going to do is gain the weight right back when he begins eating normally again.
but i was just curious...ive never heard of a "chicken and fish only diet". what is that?!

That sounds like a very unhealthy diet! Chicken and fish are basically all protein (some fat). That isn't a very well rounded diet!
She could very easily add some vegies to it and make a proper meal.
I guess she's cutting out red meat, which is her choice. Chicken and fish are the healthier options out of the meat varieties. Pork is good also.
...I guess it could be the South Beach diet.
Good on you for emphasizing that she needs to eat healthily! It will do her no good to stay on this diet at all.0 -
Assuming she means meat-wise rather than total diet (that would be crazy!) then this is actually a very common approach to weight loss. There is actually nothing wrong with it, if you are happy to only eat those foods forever which some people are and as long as the rest of your diet is varied and nutritious.
I personally think it's a bit of a myth that these foods are better. They are slightly lower cal than lean versions of other meats. Generally they are also lower in nutrition - iron, zinc etc where meat would be the main source in your diet. Choosing the right portions of any lean meat is essentially the same and much easier to sustain for most.0 -
i think she said shes lost a total of 20 pounds...and she has only been "dieting" a tad bit longer then i have been trying to make my LIFESTYLE CHANGE. (about a month now)
ill have to ask her about non meat foods. all i hear her talking about is chick, but i couldnt imagine that would really be ALL she ate!0 -
Chicken and fish are lean good proteins. Assuming both are prepared properly. (steamed or baked, or raw for the fish. ie sushi)
I know a lot of people including body builders that consume just those proteins combined with fresh veggies and fruit.
I don't know how sustainable your friends diet would be long term. Its' good to have some goals and a balance.0 -
It sounds like the Dukan diet http://www.dukandiet.co.uk/ where you only eat protein at the beginning to supposedly 'rev up your metabolism'. I tried it, it was really boring and I didn't lose any weight!0

She's eating chicken and fish because they are a little healthier than red meat. It's just like people that have heart attacks, thier dr.'s tell them to stay away from red meat and eat chicken or fish. I would think eating chicken as your only meat would get a little old after a short while. I try not to eat a whole lot of red meat, but im a carnivore, ive gotta have my steak once in a while, lol.0
