'Why are you dieting, you don't need to!"

I was thinking this morning at the gym about the really skinny girls who come in and look fab, don't break a sweat and then leave looking as gorgeous as they came in looking and how I've thought in the past that they don't need to be there and they're showing us fat girls how good they look.
Then I got thinking about how my friends and family have often said I don't need to lose weight and why am I dieting etc as I don't need to.
It then occured to me that I THINK I need to lose weight. I WANT To lose weight and I WANT to eat better and workout.
What I see in the mirror naked is not what others see when clothed and not what I want to see.
So from now on I'm going to give those skinny girls a break as only they know what they look like really and how they feel and if they feel they need to workout - probably to maintain their bodies as opposed to lose it - then who am I to judge?
I have no idea which mirror is lying to me and which one is telling the truth as some make me look good and others make me look fat so I'm forgiving everyone for their body issues and just wishing everyone good luck with the rest of your challenges and weightloss goals ahead.
Thanks all and thanks MFP.

Did you ever stop to think that those "skinny girls" look the way they do *because* they workout? I remember feeling the same way about one woman at my old gym, until I realized that's WHY she looked as good as she did. Because she kept at it. Keep up the great work and TRY never to compare yourself to others. I know...easier said than done!0

The reason they look that way is probably because they work out.0

That's EXACTLY what I'm saying.
I'm not having a go at anyone or ANYTHING.
I admire them.
I've changed.
Honest.
Will stand in the corner.0 -

you made a really good point, but there is such a thing as going too far. there is a yound lady at my gym who you can actually see her ribs. she works out for HOURS a day. she is obsessed with working out. now i realize that when we do reach our goal weights we can't just stop working out since we'll put at that weight back on, but when u see someone like the lady at my gym it's hard not to be concerned about her. her arms were almost the same size as my 9 year olds arms0 -
Awesome attitude! Keep up the good work and soon you will alos be that skinny girl at the gym.0

I gotta post again.
Sorry.
I was trying to say that I now understand why they are there and admire them.
I agree about going OTT as it's dangerous and I have seen people like that but I was trying to say something that I can't even put into words now and feel a bit stupid for not drafting my post first.
It was meant to be motivational
Messed up a bit there, me thinks.0 -

I wouldn't describe myself as skinny and I'm definitely not a girl any more lol!, but I'm a healthy BMI and am happy with my weight now.
I've been maintaining for about 5 years after losing 'baby' weight after my 2nd child.
I work damn hard to keep looking this way, and it pisses me off when people tell me I don't need to bother to work out (this usually comes from people who *never* exercise of course). If I stopped exercising and didn't watch what I ate I wouldn't stay looking like this for long!
It's amazing how often people assume that I'm 'naturally' slim and say stuff like 'ohh you're so lucky, you don't have to watch what you eat'. Yeah, I wish! I can't usually be bothered to argue with them though
ETA - I didn't take your original post as negative by the way, I think I knew what you were getting at! It just reminded me how much it annoys me when people DO have that attitude0 -

Totally understood what you were trying to say!! And it's certainly made me think too! Thank you!!0 -
This is a great way to look at things. I get told all the time that I look "great" and that I don't need to lose anymore than maybe 5lbs- 10lbs from my husband and others that are a little heavier at work. But I know what I want to look like and I see the flab hanging over my jeans. 5-10 lbs isn't going to cut it. It's not good enough for me. I deserve better so I have learned to smile and say Thank you but continue chugging on. I even have a cousin that is afraid I'll turn out to be anorexic. Can you believe that? If you look at my before pictures you can see I have a long long way from being too thin. And that cousin in particular weighs maybe 100lbs soaking wet. Sorry, that was a little vent there. lol
Anyway, I agree. We each know our bodies the best and should keep our own goals.
Good Luck!0 -

I gotcha! And I know the feeling. You've crossed an abyss. Congratulations!
I guess I feel a bit like the poster who mentioned getting tired of hearing people say I'm lucky that I don't have to work hard at weight loss. Huh? I work my *kitten* off to keep from going back to my before picture.
As for the people who really are skin and bones? Well that's a whole 'nother topic.0 -
Thanks
For a short while I thought I'd managed to annoy people with no intention of doing so.
