Never in my life could I actually run! I ran for 1 min today. I think that is pretty good considering I am 340 pounds and had a recent knee injury back in October 2010. I am so thrilled and proud of myself!

    Awesome! Way to go! :)
  • Great job! Take it one day at a time and before you know it you will be running 1 mile
  • Heck yes, sister! That is awesome. Just be kind to your joints, but keep it up.

Wow! Great! Be careful to avoid inclines for awhile if your knee is still bothering you. Keep it up, and slowly you will be a running queen! :)

great job! before you know it you'll be running a mile! (:
  • Congrats! You'll be running for longer stretches in no time. Keep up the good work!
  • Great Job! When I first started running a little over a month ago I could only make it 10min on the Elliptical (184lbs) and now I can go for almost an hour. Small steps lead to big accomplishments. Just take it day by day...your gonna do great!

    Well done.

Have you got good running shoes that are suitable for your running style? I don't mean fashion sports shoes or plimsoles but proper running shoes, bought after some advice from a member of staff?

If you haven't done that then you would be well advised to do so. Running is a high impact sport. Injury risk is more determined by mechanical efficiency than weight, but weight is still a factor and good shoes are a must for you.

    Keep it up.

Great job! :) (And thanks for giving me the push to start that Conservative C25K... ended up not running last summer with the "I'll wait until I weigh less" excuse... well.. about 35 pounds less now so maybe it is time to start?)

That is FANTASTIC!!! What an inspiration you are!!

MightMom, you gave me inspiration too! I just now do 10 minutes on the elliptical and keep telling myself to keep going and I will improve.

Good for you! I too tried running when I started at 315, now I'm 271 and it has gotten a bit easier as my fitness level has inproved over the last 13 weeks! Make sure you have a very good quality pair of running shoes though, it's very important! I have good shoes and I still managed to hurt my knee the other night jogging, so be careful! Good luck and keep up the great work just don't push yourself to much early on. Give it time and your body time to adjust!

Way to go. It was such a short time ago that I was exhausted running for a minute, but finished Week 5 of the C25K program tonight and ran for 20 minutes!

Check out Carli at http://runningintoshape.com for additional motivation.
