So I finally broke down and got a HRM with a chest strap. I wore it for the first time today during my workout. There is definetely a big difference in calories burned on the HRM vs what is in MFP. So I have a couple of questions for those of you who use them all the time please.
1. Do you wear yours all day or just during your workouts?
2. Do you still log your exercises using the MFP database or do you log calories burned according to the HRM?
3. If you log them according to the HRM what do you enter it under?
I want to make sure I am using this correctly. MFP said I burned 452 calories but the HRM said 702.

Wow! I thought you were going to say that MFP was being too generous with calories burned lol, your results makes me want to get an HRM even more than before. I was considering Body Media...which one did you buy?0

Hey
I have had my HRM since christmas - it's a sigma pc15 and I like it :-)
I will try my best to help - though I am by no means an expert!!
1. Do you wear yours all day or just during your workouts?
I wear my HRM only for workouts, or sometimes when walking / shopping - only if it's out of my usual routine though. So for me, not a weekly food shop, but for say, clothes shopping which doesn't happen much haha!
2. Do you still log your exercises using the MFP database or do you log calories burned according to the HRM?
I log my exercises by using the 'create your own exercise' section (I think its called that!) - then enter my time and calories off my HRM.
3. If you log them according to the HRM what do you enter it under?
Oop, answered that above!!
Hope this is of some help :-)
In my opinion, nothing will ever be totally accurate, by a hrm will be more so than mfp or what gym equiptment says. Like you, my hrm is usually higher than gym equip or mfp, but sometimes not too far out... Couldnt be without my HRM now though!!

I love my HRM! I like the accuracy of knowing how many calories I've burned.
To answer your questions:
1. I only wear mine during workouts
2. I log my calories according to the HRM. If MFP says 300 calories for an exercise, but my HRM says 450, I'll log 450.
3. I use the MFP headings for which ever work out I'm doing ie: "circuit training general" enter the time, then I manually change the calories.
MFP is a very general estimate of calories burned. Your actual calories may be completely different (as you're seeing), just make sure that your HRM is set up correctly with your current weight.

Well I'm sold! I just ordered myself an HRM thru Amazon.com...I got the BodyMedia FIt I hope it gets good results and is comfortable since it is supposed to be worn 23 hrs a day, which seems crazy but oh well0
