There wasn't a misc forum section but this comes up so many times I finally had to post it.
There is a significant difference between the words lose and loose and they are not interchangeable.
We want to lose weight so our clothes will become loose.
Sorry, pet peeve.

I'd rather eat a cheeseburger then a salad tonight, but if I did that than I wouldn't be able to fit into my jeans.
Ugh! Fingernails on a chalkboard... you know... those things we had in school before the dry-erase boards.0 -
For me it's the people who use then instead of than. It drives me insane. It's not just on here, it's all over facebook too.0

I instantly judge you if you mix up the words that we all learned in 3rd grade. Please call up Mrs. Brown and ask her for a refresher course. Thanks.0

Yeah, I used to wonder what an "alot" is. Then I googled it; now I know: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html0

Brilliant! I love that one.
As for offense, I would hope no one would get bent out of shape about a thread that doesn't single anyone out and is in support of better grammar for all.
For those that have taken offense, I apologize and wish you alot of luck. That, of course, would be a pale green alot wearing a shamrock necklace. I think if you catch one and rub its nose, you get three wishes.0 -
this bugs the crap out of me.
when people say they want to loose weight im thinking what? they dont want to tone?0 -

They haven't learned it yet by 7th grade?! My God, kids are getting dumber by the generation. Ask a kid (middle-schooler) what the 13 stripes on the American flag signifies, you'll be amazed at how many don't know the answer. We learned this in the 2nd grade. Thank you Miss Date.I instantly judge you if you mix up the words that we all learned in 3rd grade. Please call up Mrs. Brown and ask her for a refresher course. Thanks.

who you think you is, tryin to correct me like that? i don't know weather to use loose or lose, but i is going two work on dat!
All of it just sounds so uneducated to me! I'm assuming schools teach ebonics now as a foreign language! :huh:0 -
this used to drive me crazy too!!! then, when my son was 5 he was diagnosed with severe dyslexia (he's in the 5th grade now). the thing is... yes grammar is a very important skill to learn. but for some, it's extremely difficult. and content is way more important than context.0

i can't believe no one has brought up your vs you're... clearly the most offensive (and prolific!) grammatical nuisance the internet has ever seen0
