I like to have salads with dinner every night, but most of the salad drsg I have looked at has lots of sodium. I currrently use Newmans own ginger sesame low cal salad dressing. It has 390 gms of sodium per serving. I am trying to decrease sodium intake and could use some ideas?? Thanks!!

Also anyone have any low salt/lowfat/low carb snacking options??

try making a dressing at home
~ mixing EVOO, some basil, pepper, garlic-minced, oregano, you can add a flavored vinegar if you like

I have the same problem. I have yet to find a dressing with less than 300mg of sodium. So I've been making my own oil and vinegar. They have lots of different oils and types of vinegar for many different combinations.
  • Litehouse has a Raspberry Walnut vinaigrette dressing that is yummy! 100 cals for 2 Tbsp and only 75 mg of sodium! Litehouse is in the produce section of your grocery store; it's always refrigerated. Try to stay away from the the "fat free" dressing options. Anything with "free" anything on the label is usually sky high in sodium. I'll take the fat calories over the crazy high sodium...I usually need the calories after my work-outs anyway, and you're not getting many calories from the salad itself. Good luck!

Have you tried the spray salad dressings? for 10 sprays they range from 100mg to 150mg of sodium..At least the two of mine do anyways..I use a store brand kind. My sister will just squeeze a lemon over her salad and that eliminates sodium..I can't do that however I need a little more flavor..lol

As others have said, making your own is the easiest way to lower the sodium content. Not only can you find flavored vinegars, you can also find (or make) infused olive oil to add more flavors.
