Just curious, does anyone know where to get an idea of how many calories are burned if your playing the games that don't track this ? I currently just have Dance Central and Kinect Adventures. The wife and I have played for 2 hours straight today after purchasing and I'm wore out. My arms, legs, everything is sore lol.

I'm currently just using the Wii Fit basic to low exercise to track for now. Any help would be great.

Thanks,

  • Best bet is to get an HRM to track your calories since it goes off of your own statistics and heart rate.

how is dance central? I have a 360 and was thinking about getting the Kinect.
  • You might not ever know without someone doing experiments and what not!Playing for 2 hours has surely gotta burn some calories!
Keep your heart rate up and make sure you get out of breath :P it means you're working it!

    :D
  • Kinect Adventures is definitely a workout. my fiance's friend bought it and we went to try it out and i was sore for 2 days.

In reply to the Dance Central question. The wife is awesome at it! I'm not so good, but I can do it. It's a fun game but i enjoy the Kinect Adventures more.

Also I might have to get a heart rate monitor. All I can say is for that 2 hours of playing it's now Sunday and I'm still sore lol.

We just purchased the Xbox Kinect this weekend-- I bought the dance game, and it is definitely a good workout. I estimated my calories burned by comparing it to walking or stretching. We also bought the Your Shape-- it kicked my *kitten*! I love it! And the calories are tracked for you!

I've been playing the Rallyball on Kinect Adventures and played two games at the intermediate level before work. It got my heart rate goin. If you try at that game it can kick you butt too.

And yeah, I just googled for this info :)
I wasn't playing all that long, maybe 15 minutes? I'm def sweating a little and was out of breath. Granted, yes, I'm out of shape :) No clue what I'll put it in as, though. Won't be getting my HRM for another week or so.

I was thinking about getting the Kinect as well! Right now I go to Zumba classes at a gym here in town and I saw they have a Zumba game for the Kinect! It looks like everyone likes the Kinect so far and the different games for it!!

I'm a female, 5'1, 118 pounds. I played Kinect Adventures and Dance Central today for 2 hours and I burned over 300 calories.
  • I'm a female, 5'4", 176 lbs...I wear a heart rate monitor watch that also tracks my calories burned (accurate to EKG by +/- 1 bpm). I just finished playing Kinect Adventures in Adventure mode, basic level, for about 45 mins & burned over 400 calories. I play pretty hard--I try to get Platinum or Gold on every challenge & am working on unlocking all the achievements as well, & sweat is pouring off of me by the time I'm done. The Kinect is one of the best workout purchases I've made in a long time, I'm thinking about cancelling my gym membership, lol!
  • Have you guys tried Kinect Sports? I did the track and field....oh my goodness! I was sore for 3 days! You sprint, do hurdles, throw the javelin and also throw the discus! My arms were SO SORE. Boxing and Beach Volleyball are also good choices. Kinect Sports is a great game that feels more like playing than working out...try it!

Do I know how many calories I burned? No :(

Kinect is really awesome! I started a thread for those of us doing EA Sports Active 2 here:

I absolutely LOVE this exergame. Kinect Sports for Track & Field sounds awesome too!!! Maybe when I get stronger I can do that.

I wear a HRM when I play Kinect games, and it can be quite high depending on how long I play and what games I play. Reflex Ridge on Kinect Adventures has proven the most intense of the 'regular' games.

I recently purchased My Shape: Fitness Evolved and absolutely love the Cardio Boxing workout. Using my HRM and the Calorie tracker of the game, I end up with pretty similar Calorie stats.

    Have fun!
  • I know that in a regular Zumba class, you typically burn anywhere from 500-800 calories an hour. Same applies for Kinect Zumba.
My hubby and I just got done doing a 20min session and we are dying! LOL
I love the calorie counting feature on Dance Central!

I agree with most of this. My experience with Your Shape's calories counted, and my HRM is that the "game" was underestimating my calories burned by as much as 33-50%.

What you burn in the other games will depend on what you are playing, and how long. Plugging the holes under water in Adventures won't burn many, but the obstacle course definitely will burn a few. I've used my HRM when playing Kinect, and definitely get some calories burned.

You want a good burn on the Kinect?? I just rented Fighters Uncaged for the Kinect, it's a fighting game that uses your whole body, 10 min of playing and I am pouring sweat. It is an awesome workout for a video game, and helps get the fustration out and the adrenalin and heart rate way up, I have played for 30-45 minutes the last three nights, and I haven't been this sore in a long time. Next paycheck we are buying it for sure, and other suggestions or recomendations on other Kinect games, anybody play the sports game.

I love Kinect Sports. There is a pretty good variety of games within, but we tend to bowl and play table tennis quite a bit. I'm also a bit addicted to the Super Saver mini-game for soccer. Not too hard at first, but once the balls start coming faster and have you dancing back and forth, it gets trickier.

Dance Central is also a lot of fun (though I'm not all that great at that one).
  • My Hubby and I just got a Kinect. It came with Adventures and we got Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout. I also bought a HRM, but haven't tried it out yet. Adventures and BL Ultimate workout kicks my butt. I would like to get Zumba and Your Shape, I heard those are great.

To answer the question, I would invest in a HRM.
  • If you are looking for a game that is good exercise I would try EA Active 2. You can find it for all 3 consoles ( xbox ps3 and wii ) you do not need any contollers for either console. For the kinect it gives you a HRM. For the ps3 you get bands 1 leg and 2 arm bands with a HRM built in. It has a personal trainer and with your input it will create a work out schedual. It keeps track of your heart rate and every week you do a little fitness test which also shows your progress to becoming fit.

The exercises are proven to work. I have recently started reading men's health and many of their " get in shape " routines have these exercises. I also have a friend doing the P90x and those same exercises are found in there. The game comes with a medium resistance band ( 20 pound ). There is an option to change the weights to dumbbells or stronger/weaker resistance bands.

I don't like going to the gym and now I don't have to go their.

Active 2 gets two thumbs up.
  • I was wondering myself. I was using the Wii stuff listed because I figured they might be comparable. Kinect has to expend calories... i break a sweat just on the 2 games we have. I can't wait to get one of the dancing game.

OMG! That is all I can say! We just bought the kinect. It came with the adventure game and we purchased the sports game. I really enjoy the boxing, but you have to get passed the beginner setting to really get a burn! I went 3 rounds against the computer and couldn't breathe afterwords!! I will have to check into the other boxing game mentioned earlier to get the entire body involved. We also really enjoy the track and field. Definetly a must have system. I can't wait to add more games to out library!
  • I have Zumba Fitness for Kinect and I do 35-45 minutes a day of Zumba and it's the best exercise!!! It is just as good as the DVD and classes. I don't know how many calories I burn exactly but I believe it's between 300-450 calories every exercise!!! It's the best game for the Kinect. I love ZUMBA!! I love zumba and Kinect!!!1
  • http://healthmad.com/weight-loss/how-many-calories-can-you-burn-playing-the-kinect-and-kinect-games/

This health website says you burn 300 calories every HOUR playing the Kinect.

I also have the kinect, it is a hard work out for sure. Depending on the game I know that Zumba is about 500 calories for an hour.
Normal Kinect games as in kinect sports, kinect adventures would be considered under the 300 calories per hour.

We have the kinect - and I love it... but the Zumba game has not been the best. It has trouble tracking your movements for some reason. Have not had the same problems with Sports and Fitness for Kinect!

I would recommend the connect over the wii any day!! With the wii you could actually sit down and do the movements lol. With the kinect u have to get up I love it!! And for my kids it gives them excercise and they have lots of fun doing it. I have wondered about the calories myself I used the wii info to thats on my fitness. And the dance paradise is awesome as well. I love it when my neighbors come over and we can get a good workout by playing it and laugh and have fun. Its great!!
