I was running my usual run today on the treadmill at my gym, and I had been running for about 20 minutes at 5.7 mph with a 6.0 incline, which is pretty normal for me (I've played soccer ever since I can remember, so I've run nearly my entire life). Anyways, I'm running along, minding my own business, when these two toothpicks walk in and just glare at me. But, I kept to myself and just ran. They each get on both sides of me and start to slowly walk. The girl on my left (the skinniest one) cranks her speed up to 7.7 mph, so I was thinking, "Dang! Starting out a little fast, aren't we?" After seeing this I notice that she keeps glancing over at me and looking at my screen to make sure she's going fast than me. She was smiling and laughing with her friend. Well, after about 2 minutes, she stopped and turned the treadmill off and was panting like hell. I just kept on about my run and smiled to myself thinking, "This is exactly like weight loss, you can't expect to race through it and win; those who persevere always take the gold medal."
Just a reminder to all of you out there who are tired of only seeing one and two pounds go at a time, remember, if you persevere you'll get there quicker than you think, and you'll be so proud of yourself for not giving up!

good for you!0

Awesome story - and good for you not letting people like that get to you.
And more importantly - running at a 6.0 incline?! Wow, that's great.0 -

That's a brilliant story, I had a similar experience while swimming recently. I try and swim a couple of kms a couple of times a week and constantly have people (mostly guys) come in my lane and swim flat out for 2 lengths and then stand at the side of the pool panting for a few minutes and then swim another 2 lengths and do the same. After around 8 lengths they normally get out and go and sit in the whirl pool. No warming up or cooling down, seems pretty pointless to me and just an injury waiting to happen!0

What a great post. Thanks for making me smile and reminding us all that slow and steady really will win this race!0

she should have ended with a bow to you.
You rock!
Thank you for the well needed message (for me!)0 -
that's freakin' awesome....love it :bigsmile:0

Way to show 'em! Thanks for the reminder too! We all need that sometimes!0

Way to go! You showed them! LMAO She only made it 2 minutes and almost died. You had already been going for more than 20 minutes and probably couldn't have felt more alive when you saw her drop off. It's probably good that you didn't say anything to her, but if I were in the same position I would have looked at her and said something like, "you know, you should start slower and work up to this speed as you begin to actually get in shape." But, that's just me. Good on you for you keeping quiet. That was the most civil response. lol
Great moral to this story girl. Thanks for sharing it.0 -

OK I'll be the bad guy!
This is a great story but you calling them 'toothpicks' is also inapropriate is it not? :huh:0 -
And that is exactly WHY I don't have a gym membership...Because of the 'Skinny *kitten* B*tches' who think they are better than anyone else in the gym....
KUDOS TO YOU...! WAY TO be yourself...! :flowerforyou:0 -
HAHA! Reminded me of my bootcamp class the other day. There was this tiny little thing there with her fancy workout gear. Me in sweats and a Tee. She didn't last 10 minutes without stopping. I blazed right on through all 45 minutes. I may weigh more than she did but I was in a hell of a lot better physical condition and thats what matters.0

Thats kickin *kitten*! Pretty big incline for that speed. Impressive.0

Hahaha! I love that post, and serves that girl right. What an idiot.
This happens to me sometimes, mostly with guys, when I'm on a treadmill. I almost always run outside, but when I run on a treadmill, it's easy to get into a "pissing" contest. They usually start out pretty fast. I'm already going at a nice clip (I sometimes do interval training on treadmills), about 8:00/mile pace or faster. They usually stop after 20 minutes, and I keep going. Hahaha.0 -
Thank you for the laugh and made me smile. I know there are thin people that need to keep excersising to keep up their shape but it torques me that they just show up in the gym, flounce around, flip the TV channel that you were watching, make a scene so they are noticed and then leave, all the while you're doing what you can to burn off the that has accumulated over the years....0

I love this! Thanks for sharing!0

I have a similar experience almost every time I go to the gym. I really like the rowing machine and usual do anything between 30 and 50 minutes. I like to keep a nice steady pace all the way through - about 30-31 strokes/min. It gets my heart rate up and my stamina has significantly improved over the past 2 months.
There is always some young chick who just has to choose the rower next to me - they set off at a belting pace 35/36 strokes/min like they are in some sort of a race.
I usually close my eyes - listen to my music, keep my pace going and after a few minutes I open my eyes and they are gone - like a token gesture!
Maybe I'm the only nutter at the gym that actually really like the rowing machine.0 -
Wow, thanks for all the support and motivation! For all of you wondering how I run on this incline at this speed, I was in MANY soccer boot camps growing up, and we were forced to run up hills and all kinds of things. I've built up to this incline, I started out at like 2.0. I used to could only walk a mile in 30 minutes, but now I'm running two and a half in 30 minutes, another example of perseverance winning!0
