Share a time in your weight loss when you reached a platau or weren't seeing the results you expected. How did you feel? Frustrated? How did you get through that time?

About two weeks ago, my weight started fluctuating up and down within 1 lb. It was very frustrating because I was doing everything I was supposed to do. I just continued doing what I needed to and even tightened up with the diary and portion sizes. This period of time was frustrating but I kept going. I even changed my diet a little. Not a lot but enough to start seeing results again. After about two weeks I started seeing results again. During this time I also leaned on my biggest supporters for support. I believe it's important to have people in your lives to support you, especially when things aren't going as expected. It's also important to remember how far you have come, and where you are going.

The best way to avoid a plateau is to shake things up. I hit a breif one a while ago and I decided to shake it up by having 1 day to cheat and eat what I wanted, now despite what you may think it did not have a negative effect, rather it boosted my weight loss. My body adapted to what I was doing and you want to prevent that so if you are on 1500 cals or less it becomes even more important to shake up your diet and exercise routines to keep from plateauing. I looked at it as a way my body was telling me that it was getting bored with what I was doing and needed some excitement, look at it that way and it will motivate you to make a change.

For two weeks I didn't lose anything. The first week I was fine but I was getting a little frustrated during the second. But then I took a really good look at my diet and how I was feeding my body good nutritious, vitamin packed food and I realized that even without the loss I was still doing good things for my body. That helped me through.

Non scale goals. Challenge yourself to be able to accomplish more physically each week. I started with the Couch to 5K, so each week, I was able to run just a little bit more. Each week was a victory, no matter what was going on with the scale. Now I'm able to run 5k and try to add maybe 1/4 mile to my distance each week, or run faster each week.

Same can be said for "I'm going to go to the gym 3 times this week" or "I'm going to walk the dog one mile every night this week." Set a goal that you have 100% control over. Scales are fickle friends. You can't count on them to keep you motivated.

Well, 3 years ago, I lost 68 lbs on WW over the course of a little over a year. Then, I hit a 3 MONTH plateau where it seemed no matter what I did, how rigid I was, etc. the scale would NOT budge. So, I got mad and said, forget it! Why keep going when it's having no effect whatsoever. So, I actually stopped counting points, but was eating less food in quantity (but also less in quality). Over the next year, I slowly gained 45 lbs. UGH! I will NEVER do that again! I've spent the last 14 months trying to relose that 45 lbs and now I'm older and it's slower going than ever but I will NOT give up. Nothing is worse than having to work a whole year to RE-lose weight you've already lost once. I had been on an 11 week plateau til I came to MFP 10 days ago and have finally lost 1 whole pound!
MORAL of the STORY: Don't give up when you hit a plateau! Staying the same is waaaay better than gaining!
