Hello All! I am a Type One Diabetic and I am frustrated because I am doing everything right and the weight is not coming off. I was wondering if anyone knew if diabetes affects weight loss or some healthy tips to lose the weight?

It can make weight loss harder, keep at it and it will start. Also the most important thing with the healthier choices etc you levels will start improving :)

Hey, I'm type I too (lucky us, eh? oh no...now I'm diabetic and Canadian!). A couple of issues with it (not sure what kind of insulin you're on. I'm on Lantus and Novolog): Insulin spikes cause your body to store fat, so if you're eating a ton and then giving yourself a ton of insulin to cover it, it's not going to help. Eating smaller meals of protein and veggies throughout the day (that don't spike your sugar) and smaller amounts of carbs at a time (hence, smaller amounts of insulin at a time) could also help. Complex, rather than simple, carbs are also better, because they break down over a longer amount of time and thus don't cause such a dramatic sugar spike.

Also, are you exercising? That will do wonky things to your sugar. Overall, though, eating healthy and exercising should increase your insulin sensitivity, causing you to ultimately need less, which is a good thing for many reasons. Stabilizing your blood sugar (if it's not) should help you alot.

PS You've lost 6 lbs! That's not nothing, either--I'd love another 6, lol! Well done so far!

Since someone posted this yesterday I'm copy/pasting my response.
"Yes taking insulin hinders our weight loss. I have been type 1 for going on my 15th year and going to be 28.
My endocrinologist(diabetes) dr gave me the hint of meals of 30-40 carbs and snacks 10-20 carbs for weight loss.
I'm down 10lbs in these 4 months I have been on MFP. It's going to be a slow process but I have increased my insulin sensitivity.
In case you don't that means I have been taking less insulin. Trust me it gets frustrating as hell! The less insulin you put in your body is avoid thing because it's artificial. The one thing I hate most is when I have to treat a low BS. I been trying to make healthier choices with that too, I have del Monte fruit cups in light syrup because they are only 60-70 cals. "
Try not to over-eat your lows either.

As Merrillfoster says exercise and eat smaller meals.

    I think it's normal...and frustrating..

What type and how much insulin are you generally taking?
What are your insulin to carb ratios?
On average, how many grams of carbs are you eating daily?
