Losing the baby weight

Hi everyone! I'm new to the myfitnesspal family and i joined because my fiancee was pretty impressed with the site's tracking ability. We thought this would be helpful for me to get started losing the weight I gained throughout my pregnancy. My little one is 3 months old today and I've decided now's the time to start getting back in shape. However, this is easier thought and said than done! Although my mind is ready, my body is still recuperating from the extra weight on my joints. This makes getting up and down after long periods of sitting kind of painful. Also, although my little guy is sleeping from his last feeding at about 12am to about 5am or 530am, i tend to get between 3.5 and 4 hours a sleep per night during the week. This is due to pumping milk, washing bottles and breast pump equipment, and preparing for the next day. Hence, a very low energy level for the majority of the day. By the way, I started working again after 7 weeks and was not ready mentally, emotionally, or physically; but when 2 incomes are necessary, then you've got to do what you've got to do!

So, my question is how do I get started with changing my diet and exercising everyday? Where do I begin?! My body feels so out of shape that I believe I need to start off stretching and with low impact cardio and gradually increase from there. But I'm not sure how to pace myself or how to stick with my plan when I'm tired and just want to take a nap! Please advise as I am not happy in this post pregnancy body because I don't know how to dress it nor carry it around on 4 to 5 1/2 inch heels!! HELP!

Hey girl...I have a 9 1/2 month old and I'm down 18lbs after 2 1/2 months..I had a c-section so I started out modifying the crunches that I do..(my personal trainer had me do crunches where my knees come up as my head does but I still get the same results)..anyway I do jump roping, run 1-2 miles a day and added in strenght training..again I've been doing this for 2 months and my baby is older than yours..I was on bedrest and had a 2 lb little one so it took awhile for me to get back in the groove..so it is definitely possible just make sure to start off w/something YOU are comfortable with...like walking then maybe add in some weights to help burn more fat..I'm glad to see you on the sight..hopefully u will c a slimmer ME soon...enjoy your new addition!!!

If you are still breast feeding you should probably not worry as much about what it says for calorie intake. Your body takes about a yr to heal and some womans post body baby fat takes longer to fall off.. But I have to say I just joined this website and it has been motivating and encouraging. You can do it! I would start by eating whats good for you and your new little one! Congrats!
  • I'm with ya girl! Losing weight after baby is soo hard! I've got a six month old and have just started trying about a month ago to really start dropping some of the weight. Just be patient with yourself and don't rush; pace yourself and set mini goals that are reasonable and realistic to obtain with such a hectic schedule. Being a new working mom is tough, so you just gotta do what you can. It's also tough when you're nursing because you still have to have a healthy calorie intake. Can't go wrong with lots of fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, and lean protein. Taking walks with baby is a nice way to burn some calories and still spend time with baby too. We're all here to support you and you're not in this alone. Best of luck!

First, let me say congrats on the lil one. Second, congrats on the breastfeeding! I would have to agree that right now do not worry about losing weight, focus on maintaining and breastfeeding b/c that will keep you burning cals especially if you are pumping and feeding. I breastfed for 15mths, along with going to school, working a full time job, and having a husband deployed for the first year of our son's life. My son is almost 3yrs and recently had a breast reduction, still in school and working a full time job, so I am full force into working out. Start off slow with indoor walking, treadmill, or something like that, if I learned anything from bfing that long is that heavy exercise can throw off your milk production.

Good luck and once again CONGRATS!

congrats on the baby! if you plan on breastfeeding for a while longer, you cannot drop too many calories or you will risk losing your milk...also hard workouts can cause your milk to "taste different" ...but you can still safely lose weight while breastfeeding - just take your time with it...

also know that your body will/may take its time letting go of some of the baby weight - 9 months on, 9 months off....

    good luck!!
