Going to bed hungry

Sometimes I get a little hungry before bed as it's probably been 3-4 hours since my last meal. Should I eat a little something or just sleep it off?

That happens to me too and I'm always undecided. I try not to eat anything later than 8 pm. I don't get home from my second job until 11:30 pm so sometimes it's hard. If I'm really hungry I will grab a couple stalks of celery. If I drink water, I just end waking up in the middle of the night and I hate that. Good luck.0

If I'm hungry at night I grab a handful of almonds. They curb the hunger, fill out my calories for the day if I'm low, and keep me full all night!
Plus, a little extra protein never hurts!0 -

uugghhh, I swear I go to bed hungry every night! :sad: If I absolutely cant stand it I grab a string cheese. :bigsmile:0

I have sugar free jell-o with 2 tablespoons of readi whip and drizzle just a little bit of Herseys chocolate syrup = 35 calories.0

I never go to bed hungry. My hunger would keep me awake. Even if it would put me over my cals I would eatsomething. Quality sleep is very important.0

I wouldn't eat too close to bed but maybe have a light snack a few hours after your last meal and before bed.0

Hubby gets home from work at 11:45 pm. If he's hungry or I am, for that matter, we have a fat free yogurt. Smooth, a little sweet and just enough to kill the hunger. Its only 80 cals so its not much. Instead of that we sometimes have a handful of baby carrots or a stalk of celery. Just a little something.0

I grab for some almonds too. Occasionally I'll have a few spoonfuls of greek yogurt.0

That happens to me too.....I always eat something little..like a low fat cheese stick or small bowl of cereal. If I am legitimately hungry, it would not be good to ignore that. Your body is telling you that you need food (of course I eat something small, not a huge bowl of ice cream like I would like to-haha!)0

I sip cold water, which allows me to go to sleep. If I wake up, I sometimes go get a small cup of nonfat milk which has protein, fills my stomach enough to get me back to sleep, and has some nice benefits along the lines of sleepiness. And then I dig that weight loss I see the next day!0

Agree. String cheese, peanut butter, chocolate milk, almonds...all good snacks that I go for if I am hungry late at night.0 -
I have a cup of milk every night about 10ish. I can't go to bed hungry, I don't feel good in AM. I love my evening glass of milk0

I hate going to bed hungry. I think of it kinda like sending your kids to school on an empty stomach...they don't perform as well, at least thats what the studies say.
When you are sleeping all kinds of things are going on inside your body. Key fat loss hormones are released and tissue is being repaired. I consider this a key time for your body to have all the nutrition it needs for optimum performance. I undereat during the day which also allows for a "fat burnining window". During this undereating time, your body produces catecholamines or stimulatory adrenal hormones. Thanks for the advice I only had 11 calories left and didn't listen. I went to bed hungry and was laying awake in bed for a looong time. *Note to self: listen to MFPers*0

I always have a Casien protein shake and a tablespoon of peanut butter before bed. Casien is a slow-digesting protein, so i feeds the nutrients and amino acids to my muscles while I sleep, thus keeping my metabolism elevated longer throughout the day. I also do 20 minutes of cardio every morning on an empty stomach, which also keeps my metabolism up. As a result, I don't have breakfast until 7:30 or so in the morning, meaning that would be a full 12 hours between meals, which is a surefire way to lower my metabolism and not maximize all my hard work.
I will also say that cottage cheese is also a very viable option as well, as it actually contains some casien protein. But unfortunately for me, I'm not crazy about the taste.0
