Foods high in calories and low in fat

Can anyone suggest some foods that have a lot of calories but not so much fat? I've already switched from white bread to whole wheat bread (wheat bread has 40-50 more calories but 4-5 grams less of fat!) I'm always way below my daily calories but too close to comfort on the fat sometimes. I'm trying to improve my food choices but I've only been at this for 2 weeks now so I'm still learning! Help?

Stick to eating meats such as fish, chicken, sirlon tip steak, turkey. Things that are high in protein but low in fat. Your whole wheat bread should be for carbs. In my opinion i would do brown rice, sweet potato, or good old oatmeal. For healthy fats you can do like flax seed not oil, nuts (i do oven roasted unsalted peanuts along with some natural peanut butter). The best thing you can do is google healthy protiens/fats/carbs. If you get all those in line then you will be good to go. It is hard trust me but it can be done

yogurt should be just plain old nasty yogurt, the ones with fruit have sugar in them. cheese i do not eat at all when i cut and for milk i might have one glass a day if that. I drink over a gallon of water a day.

Are you distinguishing between saturated and unsaturated fats? My doctor told me to focus on reducing sat fat and to get more unsaturated fats in my diet because they help with heart health and cholesterol. She said to eat avocados and raw salt-free nuts, which if you look at them in terms of overall "fat content" they look terrible but the truth has a finer point on it and those fats are actually healthy. They're pretty calorie dense too. If I'm too low on cals I can fix that in a hurry with a handful of nuts, lol.

    Hi,

Citerio Salami from Costco has all calories and 0 fats ( it seems incredible but is true ) - is an Italian Salami and has a nice taste but well dunno if u ll like it. Honey is another one 2 teaspoons = 40 calories and 0 fats. Pineapple has 1 gram of fat per 80 calories so might be good too. Olives, depending how many u eat are 0 fat and have relatively high calories. White grapefruit has at 100 calories 0 fats. I think there are others too, u should check among fruits and veggies mostly.

    Hope this helps,

Food has calories from one of three sources: fat, protein and carbohydrates. To find something high calories but low in fat, you'll need something that is either high in protein or high in carbs.

Plain pasta, rice and potatoes are high in carbs, low in fat. It's the sauces and toppings we put on them that add fat. 4 oz of boneless, skinless chicken breast has 110 calories, zero carbs, 27 grams of protein and only 1 gram of fat. Focus on lean meats and GOOD carbs (brown rice, whole grains, etc.) if you want to reduce the fat you eat. Don't cut out too much fat, though, we need fat in our diets.

I'd check the sodium content on salami, and any food for that matter...
  • Thanks everyone!
